Might be fun to pre-rank MBB before the fact?

We don’t rebuild we reload. Rebuilds are when you’re team has gone through a coaching tenure that was a failure and a new coach is coming in and trying to implement a new system and don’t have any of “their guys” in the system.

I feel like ISU is 5-7 spot team, in what will be a good year for the Big 12. Not bad for an overhaul year.

How anyone can put us below the likes of OSU (such as Athlon) is completely asinine.

I think we'll finish 6th or 7th, but it will be just good enough to make the NCAA Tourney.

I think Bruce Weber is the only coach bad enough to have a chance to finish below OSU, but probably won't be enough.

KU
WVU
BU
TCU
OU
ISU
UT
TTU
KSU
OSU

I haven't done a formal rank yet, but my vibe is:
1. Kansas
2. West Virginia
3. Baylor
4. Oklahoma
5. TCU
6. Texas
7. Iowa State
8. Texas Tech
9. Kansas State
10. Oklahoma State

I think OU is under-radar. BU and UT could be anywhere from 3rd to 7th. TCU will make the tournament, but won't be seeded as highly as projected. Oklahoma State, despite having a sure-fire Big 12 first-teamer in Carroll, has to be placed last. It's a mini-mess down there.

Media types and coaches are surely about to submit their ballots. So, here's how I'm guessing it will look. You're thoughts?

  1. Ku - best at 'the game'
  2. WVU - returning old men
  3. UT - Bamba low/Jones high
  4. TCU - darlings
  5. OU - Tre will sink a few
  6. BU - depends how Lecomte rolls
  7. TxT - Keenan and Zack give a solid core
  8. K-State - Wade and Brown now juniors
  9. ISU - complete rebuild
  10. oSu - name that coach?

To start season

1. Boo U
2. Couch Burners
3. Ft Worth/Dixon Line
4. Bummer Sooner
5. Running Highlighters
6. Steers
7. Purple Kitties
8. ISU
9. Red Fakers
10. Pistol Pete, without bullets

3 - 9 will be completely different at Big XII tourney time

1. Boo U
2. Couch Burners
3. Bummer Sooner
4. Ft Worth Dixon Line
5. ISU
6. Running Highlighters
7. Steers
8. Red Fakers
9. Purple Kitties
10. Pistolless pete

It will be interesting to see how the media/coaches rank the squads. I don't believe they'll be many surprises. Most years it's about last year and history. So, Ku being on top is the only guarantee, isn't it. Although, WVU in second is probably close to a given as well. The rest, we really have no clue, nor do they.

Imo we needed to add one more scorer and not have lost McNeil this past spring/summer, but maybe with Hilton and Prohm having these guys play like Floyd's '96-'97 squad we can make it #7.

96-97 team was 10-6 and finished 4th in the conference. Just sayin'.

KSU has 4 decent to good players returning. The problem is the rest of the roster.

I could see a scenario where Texas leap frogs Baylor, TCU, WVU and finishes 2nd. They have more talent than anyone outside of KU but Smart is going to have to do a much better job than he has so far.
