ISU 3-1 over OU to open conference play

I really wish we had a conference network. BTN is really nice. I can watch great volleyball every weekend, it feels like. Of course, living in Illinois, I probably wouldn't get a B12 network. But I digress...

Watched an amazing match last night as Ohio State gave #13 Purdue their first home loss. The third set was crazy-- Purdue somehow managed to take it 34-32 after dropping both sets 1 and 2. They went down in four.

Right now Michigan State at #1 Minnesota is on BTN, and MSU is up 2 sets to none. Spartans can serve hard, they've had a lot of aces so far, and their OH Autumn Bailey has been unstoppable.

Ugh, now I feel like this post was more about Big Ten volleyball than it was our girls. I really need to move back to central Iowa so I can watch our girls in person.

It was kind of a strange match our offense'looked pretty good, but seemed OU was getting more balls up. I didn't think we looked our sharpest. Small rotation didn't include Bailey nor Miranda(except to serve).

Weirdness in B10 VB this past weekend. The two top ranked teams (Minny and PSU) both get swept at home and Purdue loses at home to unranked Ohio St.

UT and KU both needed five sets to win their B12 openers.

The speed of those big 10 games is noticeable. KU vs KSU looks like a high school match in comparison.

The Big Ten relies on outside hitters with heavy arms. Kansas looked off today in the match... I think it was extremely hot in the gym and Havilli was struggling setting to her hitters. Kansas State is so inconsistent, but have been playing better the last couple of weeks. (Remember that Kansas easily beat Purdue).

I have not watched KU play yet so I hope they look off when they play us. Texas ISU is going to be a scorcher!

I have trouble getting cyclone.com and watching the matches when they are happening, my schedule rarely affords the ability to watch the game at game time. Sure wish they had replays of games because I really enjoy watching the volleyball matches.

The big difference in the Mich St. Minny match, IMO, was Mich St serving had Minny out of system a lot. They have a traditional jump server that would take Mich St on big multi-point runs.

I was waiting for the 4th top spin serve to go into the net but she did keep it going and they had MN off balance the entire time. Hugh knew it too!
