This is actually good news for the future of the conference. What was it, 3 summers in a row, that he complained about the Big 12 which created instability? I think this last summer was the first summer in 7 years to not have any instability talk.

As big of a PITA that Boren is/was, he did force the conference to look at other options and not sit on its hands. The conference did its due diligence and made the right decisions.

He did inject a lot of chaos into the process though...not accepting the fact that Texas calls the shot. The conference is what it is...learn your role in it and maximize the $'s.

But remember it can also get worse.
It can but Boren is a politician. He likes to talk and most of the time it isn't warranted (like every summer spouting something he doesn't like about the Big 12). He isn't even the AD, he is the president of OU. Most presidents have a role in the athletic department but Boren essentially micromanaged OU's AD. Odds are the next president is more passive and lets Castiglione run the athletic department.

The problem is, after we did all this, he still went and ran his yapper another year later.

He could have done all that behind the scenes if what he really cared about was having the conference look at possible additions. He chose not to because he was stirring the pot and getting his name in the news. His impact was overwhelmingly negative for the stability of the conference.

Yeah, that was the chaos, seemingly every year. Sorry Sooners, but Texas is the center of the Big 12...Boren was pissed about that and couldn't stay silent.

Honestly, I think he still is pissed that Nebby, A&M, Misery, and Colorado jumped ship and Oklahoma didn't. Well, you tied your future to Texas (when the PAC 12 came calling)...which actually worked out in a backhanded fashion (they make more money now in the Big 12 than a move to the PAC 12 might have).

Exactly. He was after publicity. For the better part of two years prior to the 2016 election, Boren was the primary politician pushing a major education funding tax increase in OK. After running well ahead in the polls until a couple of months prior to the election, his measure started to crater and was defeated.

Word on the Texas boards that Oklahoma's regents want to move to the B1G and forcing Boren out enables them to get an AD willing to fall in line.
