looks like pretty heavy damage in McGregor, IA. Friend near there posting pics - we stayed there a couple years ago for a wedding, beautiful little town.

Town is closed to traffic. Emergency calls are being routed to Delaware county casue they have no power a sheriffs there. Implies enough damage to have knocked out generator power which I would guess they would have (maybe not).

Had a long, fun day. Today my paternal grandma turned 88. Her health issues have led to living at Rolling Green in Nevada. Today I cam and checked her out and my dad and I took her to Perkins for breakfast, then to his house for the rest of the day through supper.

Glad to see her having so much fun. Here she is from a few years ago with her friend CY when RVTV came to Nevada.

I saw that 2nd pic on fb and had wondered if part of the bluff gave way in a mudslide or something before I saw it was a tornado. Sad to see, the downtown area was lovely. Also buried in the bluffs, seems like an odd spot for a tornado to get.

Not exactly sure.

Nice photo. I'd probably crop the right side of the photo just a bit more though. :)

They keep talking about the imminent blooming of the corpse flower at the botanical center. They've even got a live feed of it. Every time I see it, I'm reminded of triffids...

So technically a tornado can get anywhere but I would bet my life savings that this was all straight line winds. The storm was moving at 70-75 mph so it doesn't take much of an actual storm wind to amount to 100+mph vector winds.

The weather gods are not being nice to Clayton and Allamakee counties (again).
Better now than a week from now.

EDIT: I should probably explain. There could be quite a few casualties and possibly fatalities if a big storm like that hits when RAGBRAI is in town. Think about 15-20,000 people with no more cover than a tent.

I have considered those for bees. I had a couple of bad reactions when I was in my 20's to stings, mostly swelling and dizziness. Got stung last week by one that was impatient when I was watering the garden. As dry as it is, they all show up for that. I immediately got a kid to help me clean it up and didn't react. It may depend on what kind of bee it is.

Like everything else medical, I think they are bankrupting people who need those now.
Spelling bee? No problem. Quilting bee? Break out the Benadryl.

Main Street is nestled between bluffs that lead to the river. It's built in a coulee like area that I speculate could channel winds.

Get to go to Cedar Rapids next week for a company open house/golf tourney. Really hoping I don't embarrass myself to bad on the course.
