Yes, this is the key. We succeed in the next 5-6 years in FB and it increases our place at the table.
And go purchase Cyclones.tv packages!

After last year's debacle (the CY TV set up, not the game) I'll likely have to follow it again online/radio.

It should simply be a better service.

Good thing was the game sounded awful to watch, and I got my money back.

I'd only want ISU to just be in a P5 conference for their own AD's sake. The actual conference doesn't really matter since they're all watered down as it is.

"The Pac-12's forecast, meanwhile, is less encouraging, and its revenue gap with other Power 5 leagues will widen before the next rights negotiation. Cal's athletic department lost $21.7 million in the 2016 fiscal year. Although the Pac-12's geography and tradition suggests members won't be looking to leave, something needs to shift before 2023."

Ouch. Maybe if Cal paraded Ann Coulter or some other right winger out at half time they could draw a crowd at least til the start of the 2nd half. (Btw, I read recently that Pollard is sitting on a $13M reserve fund. I'm all for cord cutting -- our fan base, enrollment, AAU status, and location in the central time zone might put us in the upper half of the 66 over the long haul, whatever the TV revenue model becomes.)

Cal is also basically paying off a new stadium.

hiawatha, ia
just means in the next 5 years, ISU needs to get really good at football and a few teams need to go back to the historical gutter.

Just go to eight conferences of nine (72) or eight of ten (80).

64 P5
ND and BYU
= 66

Bring up the last few stragglers in the American and MWC who have a case. Cinci, UConn, USF, UCF, Houston, and Boise State might be the list right there.

Reorganize in conferences based on history and geography.

Sign some massive TV deal together.

...done.

Honest question: what does the Big 12 have to gain by merging with the Pac 12? Stability maybe? Theoretically there would be less money per school and schedules would be a joke.

A merger? Probably nothing.

Scheduling alliance? Maybe something.
The questions I have are;
1. Would a combined Pac 12 / Big 12 TV network be financially desirable for us? Would it work, etc.
2. Could we pacify the cry baby OU fans who want "better" teams on their home schedules.

Regarding schedules - maybe we go to 8 conf games and do 2 Pac games? I don't know but it's intriguing.

for us the date is 2018, that is the year that incoming recruits that redshirt will not know what conference they are playing in the senior year. So this is upon way faster than anyone thinks. This could really affect recruiting

Why would they share the money with more schools? And you call yourself a Libertarian....

What will happen is they will pare down the teams that stay in whatever they call the P5 after 2023.

It might be relevant with some explanation of what these numbers mean.

I couldn't find an original thread regarding realignment but wanted to get some thoughts on something...

If the Big 12 had decided to go with divisions for the start of this years football season, I think our chances at a Big 12 title game would be a real possibility, depending how divisions were set up.

Not sure if they would have done it geological or what but,,

ISU, KSU, KU, OSU, OU ???

I'm not sure, but having a tiebreaker of OU would have helped.

I'm just speculating here and trying to have a little fun with a "What If"

I'm going to say they wouldn't have done it geological, but that's just me.
