How did an FCS team shut down Iowa's running game if Wadley and that oline are so great? Is it safe to say NDSU was the best defense Iowa played? Or perhaps....just maybe, games played the first couple of weeks of the season aren't the best judge of how good a team will end up being?

The best defenses Iowa played were Michigan, Penn State and Florida.

ISU greatly improved as the season went on in Campbell's first year.

IIRC ISU and Iowa have played once at the end of the season in the series right? Not sure who won

Before the series was renewed, most of the games between the teams were in late October/November. I imagine you're thinking of the 2001 game in which ISU won 17-14.

So Rivals had him as a C and 247 as a LS, interesting.

Appears there is conflicting info out there as to where he projected for college.
Here is the teaser for the top news story on his Rivals page you linked:

Long snapper commits to Cyclones
Monday's ISU football commitment count reached three just before midnight with a verbal pledge from a 2016 specialist.

You have to be really slow to see 207# and not look any further when it has a C next to his name.

"Before the series was renewed" was well before World War II and back when Iowa would only play if 2/3 of the games were played in Iowa City. I'm not sure how those games are relevant.

Welsh and Daniels were out that game from the Oline, and I'm pretty sure Wadley left injured in the second half as well with something with his knee. NDSU played well, but this didn't help Iowa.

That would be nice. I'm tired of taking so much sh*t from Hawk fans at work I could puke.

Check on the guy's prediction for last year's game. You might be less enthused. But I do think ISU could very well nip us this year in Ames. Gonna be a down year for Iowa.

Wadley barely played in that game (3 carries) and Iowa's 2 best OL guys (Daniels/Welsh) didn't play, forcing them to put two freshmen at key OL positions in their scheme. With those two guys out, I doubt playing Wadley would have mattered since they had difficulties blocking 8-9 guys in the box and even more difficulties in pass protection. This has been a major knock against KF regarding early season losses. Iowa's zone blocking scheme IMO is difficult to master and most likely the reason why Iowa's a slow starting team year in and out.

Why?

Only KF and staff know. They're certainly not infallible and to be frank, Iowa's game plan for the NDSU game wasn't exactly impressive, nor did it show much imagination. Greg Davis and Kirk Ferentz were not a good fit and it showed on the field many times. It certainly wasn't due to pass blocking concerns because Daniels was Iowa's worst RB when it came to pass pro. They adjusted a bit late in the season and gave Wadley more passes out of the backfield. Derrick Mitchell would have been pretty solid at that role as well, but he barely played in 2016 and he's now a graduate transfer at Texas Tech.
