I can't stand Applebees - and I know that will not be popular with most here - because there's something about the spices they use that just doesn't go well with me. My wife doesn't understand it, but I'd much rather go to Hickory Park.

I couldn't think of the other one just a second ago until I saw this. Applebees is generally really bad. Things are heated to within an inch of being entirely inedible. Seriously, I can do that in my own microwave at home for a lot less.

I haven't had Qdoba in years but I prefer Chipotle to Pancheros, but I also don't really know anything about Chipotle's ads that people seem to not like.

Ankeny DQ- has anyone ever seen a slower restaurant? I've gone here a few times when i've had an ice cream craving since i moved up here last year, and not once has the line been less than a 30 minute experience (often longer), moving extremely slowly.

The yelp reviews are pretty scathing https://www.yelp.com/biz/dairy-queen-brazier-ankeny
DQ is easily the slowest fast food restaurant I've been to, It always seems like they're under staffed

Cool Basil in Clive gave me food poisoning so that is a location I will never be visiting again.

La Cantina in Marion. Their service was awful and slow (when it wasn't busy), their food was bad, didn't know how to make drinks on their own menu, and had their AC jacked too high on a summer day. I've heard others complain about finding debris in their food once. Never again.

Lighthouse--most overrated restaurant in CR area, possibly most overrated restaurant in Iowa. Food was bland, too overcrowded so had to wait two hours, then took two hours to eat. Not worth it at all.

Center Point Rd KFC - they ALWAYS screw something up or run out of something.

Hardees (anywhere) - I typically get sick after eating at one

Subway...used to dabble but one time I heard their chicken described as 'squishy', and realized I agreed with it, and I don't think I've been back.

OK, not as fast but for the same basic sub, I mean basic sub, not Potbelly, Casey's kicks the crap out of Subway 7 days a week.

Not really a restaurant, but the only company I try my best to avoid is Disney

That company is straight up evil. Thankfully I don't have children and I'm not gay so I can do an ohhhh kaayyy job of avoiding the mouse. (Other than ESPN)

I have even stopped watching the new Star Wars movies since Disney got their paws on in.

Not it any particular order:

1) SportsPage West Ames. Awfully slow, food is blah
2) BWW- damn expensive for what you get. I never get the wings but hopefully they aren't luke cold like my sandwich always is.
3) Subway in southern MO. Wanted a wrap, but almost got a dose of penicillin from the mold
growing on not just one wrap but the whole package!
4) DQ- eversince they got rid of raspberry as topping, they won't get my business
5) Old Main - food portions smaller, price is higher. enough said.
6) I'll get bashed for this but, the Grove. Food is good and great service but when was a health inspector there?
7) Valentino's- anyplace. Ceiling fan fell on me when it was at the mall. Manager was hesitant
to offer to pay my bill. WTF??

Does Casey's do actual subs or are you referring to just those basic cheese/ham melts they used to put out? They were always good, and yes, better than Subway.

It's a good thing for my health that I don't live in Iowa...too many Casey's to stop and eat quickly.

For me it's Popeyes and it has nothing to do with food, just a bad experience that wasn't due to the wait staff. When I was in college, I went to Chicago for a semester and one day I decide to try Popeyes since I have never tried it before, and I do like fried chicken.

The Popeyes location I go to is downtown, and thing about downtown Chicago is there is a noticeable homeless population. Not too sound callous, but you eventually ignore the homeless asking for money when walking around. Well anyway I go to Popeyes which is in a food court like area, and I'm looking over the menu on what to get when I am approached by a homeless gentlemen.

The gentleman asked me if I could get him some chicken, and I said sure thinking I would just give him a piece off of my plate. However he wanted me to purchase him a couple of pieces of chicken which I ended up doing. So our food comes, I give him his food and he leaves. I go to sit down to start eating my food.

While I'm eating, another homeless guy comes up to me and ask he for some chicken. At that point, a police officer comes up to us and yells at the homeless guy, "I thought I told you not to come in here again." To which the officer escorts the guy out of the food court area. I ate my food quickly and got the out of there. I haven't been back to Popeyes since.

Legend's Grill. Service is terrible.

I was just going to post Legends. I've never been impressed by their food. Another is Cozy Cafe. I don't know how you can serve sausage, eggs, English muffin, and hash browns and the only things that tasted good were the eggs.

Tacopocalypse and Krunkwich. The owner is a douche, and I think the food is incredibly overrated and overpriced...but I eat there every so often just to convince myself I still don't like it.

Won't go back to Flying Mango. Went once and the place was filthy. Food was just okay.
That place is close to where I live. I've never been because the menu looks overpriced and the place looks like a retirement home from their customers.

Actual, real deal deli subs. Bascially same type of glass case like Subway where you pick toppings. Only its good.

I used to work in wholesale food service and Applebee's food is nearly all heat and serve. Coupled with the some of the worst service I've experienced, I will never step foot in one again.

Hardees (anywhere) - I typically get sick after eating at one

I swore off Hardees decades ago. That being said the local dining choices in this area are woefully limited. So eventually went to the Hardees in Tipton. I was pleasantly surprised by both the food and service and have gone back several more times and it's always been at least pretty good. They really work to keep the dining area clean and uncluttered.

Not willing to try any other locations just yet, but...

They have a lunch meal deal which is a bargain. Your choice of 2 Hot Ham and Cheese sandwich or Double cheeseburger (mix or match), fries, drink and hot apple pie for $5.00.

anywhere that doesnt serve american beef (sonic for example) and anywhere that has some jacked up misinformed uneducated view on animal welfare and then try to use it to get customers that are equally uneducated. Especially places like chipotle who just lies to customers about where their food comes from. Also on their site they brag about serving pork raised free to root and roam outdoors (which they dont) and how thats so much better. Better how and why? you cant just make things up without explaining why its better.
