Every college basketball fan uses kenpom. I'm not a huge fan of it, but it is interesting to look at. Pomeroy emphasizes that his rankings won't be "accurate" until about a month into the season. Seems to favor teams that grind it out, so we're usually a little low.

I don't get your point. It's probably the best stats service out there. That said, it doesn't capture our style of play very well, and has flaws with transparency and translating the 'real' element of sports (which isn't possible).

it is newsworthy. Every national journalist/ pundit uses it - or at least looks at it - too.

Ken Pomeroy himself also says its not accurate at the outset of the year - he needs stats to make it work. But, he's got a brand to promote, so he's going to release a preseason ranking.

I can see this...I'm imagining a similar season to the last two give or take a couple games....last year's team hovered right around 15 IIRC and that's usually a decent team with 22+ wins.

Like most preseason rankings...these are forgettable by March.

...And? This is such a tiny thing to get worked up about. KenPom is usually pretty accurate and interesting. Certainly his rankings doesn't love teams with styles like ours, but that doesn't make it any less legitimate.

Hines has always used KenPom. Plus he was simply relaying information. Same as if he were to tweet out the AP Poll when it comes out. Sometimes it seems like people sit around waiting to get ticked off about something.
