Pop Songs about Iowa/Iowa Towns

This doesn’t specifically say Iowa, but Hailey is very proud of being Iowan, and this whole album is about growing up in eastern Iowa. This song is a total banger too.

All your links work in your old post here--impressive! Except this one:

I collect local/regional releases, mostly pre 1970. Even at that I find very few local references.

That being said, I do have one called "Getting Out of Muscatine." It's very much on the order of a Johnny Cash song. Mentions several local companies. I think this is the first time I've tried to find something on You Tube to link here that WASN'T there. I'm sure it was a very small local private pressing. This was particularly satisfying to find and hear since I myself got out of Muscatine.

(Edit: I happened to think I also have a song by the Baroques, a 60's band out of Wisconsin, I believe. They had a single release on Chess/Checker - pretty much a major label - called "Iowa - A Girl's Name" which isn't about the state of Iowa, but a girl named Iowa if I remember correctly.)

If you are from the Fort Dodge area, you might remember a song from the 90's called "Kokotho", which was a parody of the Beach Boys song "Kokomo". It names many towns in the Ft. Dodge, to Spencer, to Algona triangle. It was made by some locals and it ran on 94.5 radio out of Ft. Dodge. Actually a pretty good song.

:spinny:
I remember that. I wonder if it's on the YouTubes.

This song is about the Mississippi flowing past Rock Island, Illinois.

Close enough to the Bettendorf and Davenport side for me.

Check out the early pages of this thread-there are a lot of broken links. Curious what treasures they may hide.

This is one of my favorites:

"Shark Smile" by Big Thief:

"Evelyn's kiss was oxygen
I leaned over to take it in
As we went howling through the edge of south Des Moines"
