Donovan Davis announced on May 6th that he committed to the Cyclones!!!

What in the world is going on with Wisconsin and Marquette with their in-state recruits?

Tyrese Hunter - Iowa State

2022:
Seth Trimble - North Carolina
Leon Bond III - Virginia

2023:

2024:
Kon Knueppel - Duke

2025:

Donovan Davis - Reported Iowa State lean

Marquette's kind of overrated at a program and imo Gard at WI doesn't have much of an identity and I've heard he's really boring.

Smart seems like he’d be a great recruiter, but Marquette has underperformed and seems heading in the wrong direction. Gard looks like a douche, but he’s got “playing in the Big Ten” to sell. TJ just blows those guys out of the water on all fronts, personality, development, on-court results.

Their loss is our gain. Crazy 5 of their last 10 top 60 recruits have ended up in a Cyclone uniform.

That doesn't even take into account Tyrese Haliburton, Deonte Burton, Jameel McKay, Scott Christopherson, Diante Garrett, etc...

Marquette basketball is BIG in the state of Wisconsin and especially the Milwaukee area. They also don't have football.

Wisconsin is also a huge program with Big Ten money to throw around. Keep those two programs down for as long as possible please.

I can't EVER imagine a scenario where we see a stretch in which that kind of talent is leaving the state of Iowa over a 7-8 year period.

I don't know what your resource is and maybe it's because I live in the Madison area but I don't know anyone who talks about Marquette bball other than maybe some actual UW bball fans on the day they play one another in December.

I spent a lot of the early 2000s in the Milwaukee area. That is when they really had things rolling with Tom Creane, D Wade, Travis Diener, Steve Novak, etc...Marquette also won a national title in the late 70s. That is a proud basketball program. They have been a bit down the past few years but I can promise you they are still top ten in average attendance in the country the past ten or so years. People are heavily invested in that basketball program. As a private Jesuit University they have a rich alumni base.

Over the past 50 years, Marquette has been a more successful program than Wisconsin and it isnt close.

I’ll honestly be shocked if he chooses either Wisconsin or Marquette. I think it’s really 3 schools. Iowa State, Iowa and Nebraska. To @LLCoolCY point, TJ has fostered that relationship a lot longer than the other two. Might mean good news, but we’ll see.

I do think people are underestimating McCollum. If he remains successful post Stirtz, he’s going to be a major thorn in our side, I’m afraid.
Not really worried about that at all (McCollum). There are plenty of guys to go around from the portal no doubt, so Iowa might be decent going forward. But when I hear about McCollum's poor interpersonal skills and him being arrogant and aloof, I don't see that being a positive on the recruiting trail.

There was some story the announcers shared about him during the Tourney where he went to his mother to ask how he should relate to his players at a previous coaching stop. Yikes.

Head to head for a recruit provided money and PT are similar, my money's on TJ.

On the other hand we consistently have strong regular seasons while climbing up the rankings and then underachieve in the post-season. Is one really better than the other?
Well, who has the better national profile as a hoops program currently? It's obviously ISU, and it's not even close.

I think we land him. No real information, just a hunch. It seems like he has the longest and strongest relationship with ISU. This would be a huge get.

I don't think there's an argument about which program has been more successful, but in terms of state-wide interest it's UW and it isn't close. Outside of SE Wisco, nobody cares about Marquette at all.

Source: grew up in Hudson, lived in Madison for a spell, and a lived in La Crosse for a long time.

And given the income disparity, I'd argue Marquette is closer to permanent mediocrity than being nationally competitive again.

If Cyclones fans are looking for something to do Wednesday.

He's opening the doors to the public? Public is going to be all Badgers, will be minimal clapping for the good guys. Of course Lebron did the same, "taking my talents to South Beach" from a Cleveland gym I believe. Hope to hear, "taking my talents to Ames".

Harrison Barnes announced his commitment at Ames High open to the public. It wasnt a gym full of TarHeel fans.

These things are usually filled with his family and friends. They will be elated to hear him announce Iowa State

Is this true? Or is there funny math, like Nebraska football attendance that is propped up by "ticket sales" for empty sections?
