***2026 NCAA MBB coaching carousel***

Seems legit. :jimlad:

I'd like to make a point of parliamentary procedure and suggest that the aerial tramway be used in place of the sarcasm pirate...I can't see the sarcasm pirate.

aerial tram-WAY!

* edit - well dammit the aerial tramway didn't show up

SVP & Stanford Steve talking about TJ saying he's not interested in North Carolina (59:42 mark):

They weren't as condescending as other national personalities, but they're almost speechless at the thought that someone would stay at Iowa State, which I think is because of a failure of imagination/some outdated beliefs. First, gobs of money doesn't guarantee success. Plenty of good coaches have failed to take well-heeled basketball and football programs to the promised land. Houston has been the best regular-season team the last four or five seasons, and while I wouldn't say Houston is a better job on paper, ultimately the proof is in the pudding. Davis was far from a bad coach, but he couldn't win enough for those fans. Is Otz a better coach? I think so, but Bill Self is a great coach whose program has plenty of money, and he's struggled to consistently compete for championships in this era

Second, Otz has won at Iowa State, and if he thinks he'll at least be able to afford similar rosters going forward, just from a logical standpoint it follows that he should be able to keep winning. SVP and Stanford Steve seem like they're assuming you can't sustain success at little ol' Iowa State, which may be true 10 years from now, but Otz has done it for five seasons and counting

Third, the Jordan brand thing only matters as far as the money it brings in. You can get really good players to come almost anywhere these days as long as you're willing to spend more than the other schools that want them. Would you be able to bring in almost everyone you want at a place like North Carolina? Sure, but that's because of their money, it has little to do with tradition. Davis was their first coach in the NIL era, and the school deemed him a failure. I think it's much more of an open question than Stanford Steve does whether or not blue bloods still have a significant advantage. Even their near limitless money can dry up fast if donors aren't happy, which supposedly happened to Davis

Arizona coach Tommy Lloyd has agreed to a new deal with the school, he announced, as he said at Final Four presser he’s staying at the school. Per ESPN sources, Arizona’s new deal with Lloyd will make him one of the five highest paid coaches in college basketball, per me and Jeff Borzello. He’ll start in 2026-27 at nearly $7.2 million and will average $7.5 million over the life of the deal, ESPN sources tell me and Jeff Borzello. “My Michael Jordan is Steve Kerr,” Lloyd said.

Yep, the Big12 needs to keep its stud coaches to maintain it's status as a top MBB conference. Can't lose ground to the Big10/SEC.

With the right funding, I'd argue he is in a better position to win at Arizona than UNC.

UNC is in a mess with meddling boosters, sky high expectations, etc. Their big advantage is their history as a blue blood and that doesn't mean nearly as much now that the playing fields are more level and everyone can pay the players, not just them and a few schools.

Lloyd played that like a king. Leverage UNC. Use right wording in your pressers to show the Cats you are leaving. Then Arizona folded and gave the raise. Props to Zona for keeping their coach though

Scheer has made it no secret that Lloyd and the new AD don't particularly get along so it's big that he doesn't have to deal with her anymore. I'm sure that had to be part of the deal to get him to stay.

They also have a hot mess on their hands with their football situation and sunk cost if not additional committed dollars
