WBB: 2026 Transfer Portal

For those thinking half of this exodus isn’t led by money, rumor is Jada has already named her starting price of 650k minimum for next school.
Pretty sure that's based on someone making it up. That said that that's about half of Iowa states whole team amount this year.

Any reason out there why all these girls are leaving the program? Seems strange that starters are leaving off a team that should have been pretty decent next year.

Why stay? Three years in a row and Bill has never done anything different so why would year four be any different for these girls? And like this last three years, they'll be an absolutely mid-level team in a pretty bad conference. For someone like Jada, who won't go onto the WNBA because of her size, if she can get a decent check to start her life for a year, why wouldn't she take it? Sorry, but the cyclones with the team they had this year coming to act we're not competing for anything next year.

Guys everyone ran journalism an out of town because they didn't want to pay for it. A reporter for someone like the Des Moines register can be critical of the coaches, these guys can't they're completely beholden too. The athletic department or the entire company goes away. They have to be very careful about what they say. You can't hold that against him. I don't know them from Adam but they're in a really sticky situation.
I agree. And honestly, the DM Register folks have to be a little careful too. It sounds like I was being critical of Chris and Brent, but I'd do the same thing in their shoes. My comments were to clarify what was said and what wan't on their podcast today.

It’s sure a lot easier when you have really good players to start with. In the era of NIL, money is king. Just look at TCU. Throwing gobs of cash at sports and you can see what it’s done for their women’s team. Just spend the money and reload with top players.

If money was king Kentucky would be still in the tournament. But the truth is coaching still matters. An if you’d pull your lips off BF’s ass you’d see he’s not doing a good coaching job

I'm also a long time supporter of our WBB team and would argue this has little to do with the state of college athletics and our lack of NIL but is a complete failure by Bill F and staff. Bottom line is these women do not want to play for him and are showing it by walking.

FYI, I think I successfully reverse-engineered the buyout. As we already knew, there is a retention bonus of $700k if he's employed on June 30, 2027 or fired without cause. According to USA Today, his buyout on 4/1/2022 was $1,881,250 and his buyout on 4/1/2024 was $1,431,250. That difference is exactly $450k, or $18,750 per month. If you keep subtracting $18,750/month, his 7/1/2027 buyout is exactly $700k, his retention bonus.

So at $18,750/month, his current retention bonus is exactly $1M ($700k retention, plus $18750 * 16 months = $300k buyout of final season).

I wonder if the math works out to just dump him now then?

Not sure if you have seen JPs comment about this from rev share meeting, but that’s way more than half of what he is giving WBB.

Many of them are petty the scheme is just give the ball to Audi, and if you're not giving the ball to Audi, just stand there and hope Audi kicks it to you without turning it over whilst getting triple teamed.

The others took winning over money last year and saw how far that got them.

I’m a fan of everything Bill has done, but after the second mass exodus in 5 years of the roster, it’s clear that something is going on in the locker room. I think the gymnastics situation has been informative as far as how much oversight Jamie actually exerts over non revenue programs, but he needs to step in and cut Bill loose, whether he retires immediately or is fired is his choice, but this is a come to Jesus moment.
I’m a fan of WBB, but it’s getting harder to justify season tickets next year, which just makes me sad

It's the NIL era, there will be no continuity on any teams except in rare cases with the most successful teams.

it's just reality and everyone needs to realign their expectations. Everyone is a one-year rental unless extremely special circumstances exist. We're just lucky we got Addy, Audi and AJ together for 3 years.

I also wouldn't be shocked if there are other athletic programs at Iowa State questioning why WBB gets all the $$$ and talent yet no results. If they aren't going to get the results, it's a bad look if JP is giving them an exorbitant amount more than the other programs.

We had as good of core as you could want. 3 top tier players and some more than adequate reserves. The coaching was subpar. The issue about $$ should be how much we paid the staff for that subpar effort.

Bingo. I’ll still get season tickets regardless of who is coaching and who the players are just because I thoroughly enjoy the sport. BUT…the pathway college sports is heading down is sure a downer. At some point it will be, for me, like the NBA…something I don’t care to watch. Guess that means more money for travel…
Costa Rica is beautiful.

Like who? In terms of the big sports at ISU, WBB is last in rev share $$. Football, MBB, wrestling all have higher share.
