This was one of the keys I watched in the no-con … why didn’t he play big minutes to get ready for conference play? Never made sense to me because I was guessing he’d be needed playing Big XII teams.

    Thanks Gabe

Check out this link ... to defend at a high level it may not equate to jumping and running, but you have to have a very good "starting point" and train the rest ... https://www.businessinsider.com/kawhi-leonard-nbas-best-defender-trained-like-cornerback-2016-3?op=1

He’s pretty slow footed … plus this year in the Big Ten he was being guarded by smaller quicker guys and it really caused him problems. I don’t see him as a fit for the Big 12 grind.

    Gabe's Big12 Conference Stats

I agree, but since he doesn’t have the ball in his hands much, it may be more a function of how we’re running offense.

    Gabe's Big12 Conference Stats

I’d have to go back and figure that out, but my assumption is the same as yours and he improved a lot. He’s back to what he did as a freshman in the Big 10, while taking more on the offensive end and leading on defense.

Jaren has the ball in his hands about 10x more often than Gabe. Gabe is positioned in the corner where there is no room to work off the dribble. This is an offensive coaching issue.

Jaren has been limited in conference on defense (especially) and on offense. All conference games.

Gabe wasn’t the problem today … not lights out (11 shots - 12 pts) but definitely not the problem on offense. Jaren was awful on both ends. Coaching … especially on offense is the biggest issue. Having Jaren in position to take that many shots makes no sense.

Seriously? If it’s related to lacking quickness and speed, it’s been like that all year. It’s being exposed on Defense in conference which isn’t a surprise. Offense too. They are putting longer slow guys on him and he can’t finish anymore … this is the best conference in basketball and they...

    Gabe shot selection

2nd time through the conference, they have figured out our offense. With Caleb out and no apparent adjustments to our offense, they are loading up on Gabe (many times face guarded). Gabe can do a better job of shot selection, but some overall offense adjustments would be helpful for the whole team.

Take the KU game … Gabe had 7 shots and 6 tonight. He’s playing within the system and that what the system is producing.

They were face guarding Gabe and playing 4x4 on that end of the court. Plus our offense doesn’t purposely create many looks for him. He gets them from his off ball movement and ball movement which is pretty easy to negate by face guarding him.

Who leads the team in scoring this year?

After todays game, Self said that they were not going to switch off of Kalscheur … He wasn’t going to let Gabe score and was willing to give Jaren the shots … Jaren hits the open looks. Team game shows how these threads are kinda dumb.
