When was the last time you wore a tie?

Testifying
Early in my career I worked for a couple of places that made us dress up every day. What a dumb Idea. You wear your jacket into the office, hang it up, and put it back on when you leave. Your pants always wore out way before the jacket. Just as clothing stores started selling suits with 2 pairs of pants, professional apparel became less formal.
Need to take off the pants.

I wear one everyday. I didn't for a long time, but a colleague said to me once "you are a professional so dress like one." That's been a few years now.

I've seen plenty of people that can dress like something but are not that thing.

And I've met people that dressed casually that couldn't be better to work with.

One other thing, it’s a pain to have to go to YouTube every time to remember how to tie a tie. Then the knots change based on style and I’m never sure what one to use. So it’s just easier to avoid it unless I’m told it’s an absolute requirement.

When I retired I gave away all my ties except the novelty ones. Now I am thinking if I am a pallbearer someday would Mickey Mouse or Snoopy really be appropriate?
Depends on who you are pall bearing for my BIL would love it.

I don't mind wearing ties. Whether I wear one to an event where you may find people wearing ties depends on how blasted hot it is, and my mood at the time.

I went to Amazon to look into getting some of these and then Amazon tried to sell me this. Lol! These would go great with some sock suspenders.

I wore one at my uncles funeral a year and a half ago. I usually wear them only at funerals. For weddings I usually go sport coat and no tie.

Not exactly sure.
Only for weddings and funerals.

Not sure I understand the concept of professionals should wear ties. IMO, you should dress for your industry regardless of what your job is. If you’re in manufacturing and your clients don’t wear suits and ties, why would you?

If you’re in finance, then I assume you just wear your golf apparel to the office since that’s where your client meetings are held?
Not that ties need to be worn, but professional dress has really crashed. I was at a business last week where the manager was going over the corporate crack down on dress code. They wanted it stepped up, they had mentioned that the one male there that was wearing casual dress slacks and shoes was the only one that met what should be worn.

My wife is a teacher and she said that leggings and long sweatshirts had been normal wear for a few younger women teachers. She Said it looked sloppy. The principal just cracked down on it there also. When the aids dress better than the instructors, it doesn’t look good she mentioned.

I wear a tie probably 5-6 times a year. A suit probably 3-4 times. I actually find well fitted suits more comfortable than jeans and a Tshirt/polo

Just learn one knot, probably four-in-hand or half-windsor, and always use it. Needing different knots for different things is way overblown.

I wear one every time I go to the office. It's not required at my employer. We have a "dress for your day" policy. Most people wear variations on jeans and a polo, but I feel most comfortable in a dress shirt and tie, with either slacks or jeans. Sometimes I'll throw on a blazer. It's kind of a frame of mind thing. On my WFH days, I do jeans and a T-shirt, tho.

My crazy neighbor took me to small claims court a year ago over a bunch of nonsense, dressed nice for judge. She is an aspiring/failing actress who mostly plays women who cry hysterically, pretty much everything she said was a lie. Good news is pretty sure she moved.

I working in the state senate for a few sessions so had to wear a jacket and tie every day. Because of that I have a handful of sport coats and ties I like.

If I didn't have a 10 month old I would probably wear a sport coat and tie to the office about once a week. As it is, I wear that about once a month.

Personal pet peeve, but I don't like when people just wear a shirt and tie with no jacket. If you take the jacket off during your day that's understandable, but to just wear a tie has never made sense to me and looks like someone who is renting me a car.
