It’s a fair point

More than anything I’m trying to figure out what in the world is wrong with this team. Everybody’s numbers are great. There’s strong talent

Which leads me to believe there is a leadership issue

Can someone smarter than me tell me why it looks like there's no movement on offense off the ball? No one freakin moves. Makes it really easy to defend.

turnovers are becoming a major problem.....even when we played Colorado at home, we were insanely sloppy with the ball

I cannot figure it out. If a fan can obviously see that no ball movement, dribbling excessively, and taking hero ball shots is NOT the path to offensive success yet we keep doing it over and over. There do not seem to be any consequences for dumb turnovers and not sharing the ball…so the players keep doing it.

Ya start to wonder if TJ’s non-in-game coaching matters at this level. It’s not something this board openly talks about.

Does your leader need to be able to take control strategically in-game as opposed to just being a general manager, rah rah type?

maybe we need to go to the Nate Oats school of offense because I am really tired of iso ball, over dribbling, non-movement on offense

I posted in the Maui game threads that Jackson/Jefferson and Chatfiled weren't going to cut it on D. I guess I had hoped they improved over the course of the season but that hasn't been the case.

We really miss BRE and Ward on D this season.
They’ve shown glimpses and have had great moments defensively. They have it in them.

But yes we just aren’t consistently connected hip to hip on that end. When we are, it’s beautiful. I’m hoping that’s the switch we can flip when fully healthy and it’s win or go home.

There's two annoying problems. Sometimes they stop passing and moving without the ball, which often leads to forced drives and bad shots.

Sometimes, the switch flips, and they begin passing way too much. They pass out of looks they need to be shooting, only to whiff and turn the ball over. Or pass into someone heavily covered and lose the ball.

Balance is key, and we struggle to maintain it.

Ruckuh!

We can get better. Will we?

I think we would all just love to see a late season surge, maybe win the B12 Tourney, go long in the Dance. I don't know. I could happen, I suppose.

Still love the Cyclones. It's hard to make that last push though.

Well that sucked. I certainly didn't think they would lose this game, but I still didn't feel entirely confident about it. This team has just not had a good month of basketball. Seems like ever since Arizona hit that miracle shot this team has lost its mojo. I'm pretty much done worrying about seeding in the tournament. I just hope this team can get it together for the tournament and make a run. I still believe they are capable of that if they can get healthy and get right.... but time is running out.

Compare his previous years stats to this year. He's not worth getting paid more from us. It should be the exact same cause he hasn't done anything more to prove he's worth more. If he's getting double the offer, tell him we're paying the same as this year so go take the bigger offer if that's what he thinks is best for him. Same with Milan. His stats are almost identical to last year so he has done nothing to warrant paying him more than this year.

There's gonna be over 1000 guys in the portal. Plenty of guys out there that can put up those stats with 7 turnovers. The worst thing we can do is get into a ******* match over how much money someone gets paid. We are a school that plays basketball, not one that worries about how much guys get paid. I think we just watched a game where guys are more worried about money than being a team that plays well together.

Tonight and against WVU I would argue this was a downstream effect. Both opponents were allowed to be extremely physical guarding ball handlers. Obviously, at first Iowa State was just handing it over to them. It’s hard to run offense and get comfortable when you turn it over every other possession. Then they got a halftime speech and stopped turning it over, but that was mostly because they were terrified of doing so and guys were just standing at the top of the key dribbling with their backs to the hoop. Then the shot clock would be running down so they’d force a drive and not get a bailout call, or, the few times they swung it guys missed shots or were passive and pump faked and lost their dribble.

IMHO this team has had problems all season when they’ve abandoned dribble drives, healthy or not. Having three good guards who are good drivers means you built your team around that, you didn’t recruit BYU’s roster with the intention of spreading things out and letting it fly. You trust your guards to either finish through contact or make the right pass, which can lead to additional ball movement. I understand it’s difficult to drive when nothing’s being called. They tried to work the post for a while and blatant shoves on Jackson and Jefferson weren’t called till the very end. So then you become a perimeter offense, and Oklahoma State was happy to let them swing it damn near midcourt, hoping to jump passing lanes

Devries said after a close win over oklahoma state that they are a tough matchup if your team has no depth. they have great length and speed, play the full length of the court, and are fast paced.

didnt watch your game, but ISU has similar style of play as WVU, demanding defense that taxes players, and while more depth, maybe not great depth.

Oklahoma state could just be a bad match up for you, simple as that.

The honest talk should now be our resume is not great. What's our best win? At separate times I would have said home wins over Marquette or Kansas. Both of those teams have fallen quite a bit.
The win at Texas Tech is now a really good one with them in the top 10. At the time they were unranked and took us a miraculous end to end bucket to get to overtime.
Other than that there is nothing, plain and simple.
