I watched some of the Cincy game and the first half of the Mizzou game. The Cincy game was weird and boring. There were no fouls (12 total in the game combined), and it wasn't just like the refs swallowed the whistle - it just wasn't very physical.
The Mizzou game - the arena was rocking and KU was flustered BADLY the first half, they had 14 turnovers and were down 15 at the half. They made it a bit closer in the second half, but they were completely off the rails in the first.
When they struggled against Mizzou, there were 4 main things:
1) Be physical with Dickinson - he pushes further and further out
2) KJ Adams was in foul trouble so they went small
3) KU guards were sped up and made bad / lazy passes
4) Mizzou (Bates and Mitchell especially) got into the paint at will
Mark Mitchell, the Duke transfer, was especially effective, both at getting to the paint and drawing fouls on Adams. His game is quite similar to Jefferson, who I think will be a key (as usual) and the chance to be very disruptive to KU's defense. Either getting Adams in foul trouble - and then if KU goes small, either matching up with Dickinson, which is an intriguing matchup on either end, or getting AJ Storr on him, which is a huge mismatch.
KU hasn't had the same turnover problem they did at Mizzou in any other game - but they haven't faced a defense like ours either - we're a better team than Mizzou and a tougher environment.
