Momcilovic is the most likely. He's kind of a goofy kid although you don't see it a lot in interviews or on the court. Keshon would get them the most pissed off. If there's one thing Iowa fans hate, it's a guy with dreads lighting them up and taunting them.

I can't tell if Curtis Jones permanent smile is just super nice guy, or if he's a bit of a trash talker behind the smile like Haliburton is in the NBA.

I won't be able to watch due to work but I hate this game so it works out.

A ten point loss would be annoying but wouldn't shock me.

This is Iowa's Miracle on Ice moment and what's happened before won't matter.

ISU's due for a clunker and what's been their strengths (inside game, Gilbert driving) will be off tonight and what Iowa's known for (soft, no inside game, no guards) will magically work tonight.
Get a new career? Jkjk

We've played so poorly in Carver the last several years -- men's and women's -- I've actually wondered if they are gassing our locker room.

I think the Cyclones have too much talent, but Iowa will be jacked up and we WILL have to overcome some adversity to win.

Like others have said, I'm worried Iowa gets hot from three. They have the potential to do that, and the three ball is the great equalizer. It's why NBA teams now shoot more than 40% of shots from three. The analytics favor it. Couple Iowa's good shooters with the fact that our defense to this point this year, does a lot of trapping, just like past TJ defenses. If Iowa is strong getting out of a trap, then there's always a man open on the back side of a double-team after ball reversal. It's just a numbers game. Some of the traps we do cause TOs, but Iowa has good fundamentals and I worry about them getting a lot of open threes and attacking our traps looking to score rather than retreating. We have a tendency to give up a decent amount of open threes because of this defensive strategy against good teams that work the ball (See BYU last year who beat us at BYU handily and almost in Hilton - probably one of our tougher matchups).

So, I'm preparing for the nutshot, but I also recognize we're a better team with more talent, and it's also possible we win by 15.

We shall see.

Going to Iowa city for this game. Why am I nervous?
Being in that place sucks! It just does. All the black and gold that stupid fight song that makes your teeth itch. Everything about it is crap including the parking. Free for All Hellscape.JPG

They're going to be playing out of their minds because of their rival being ranked so high and they're led by Iowa/quad city local kids.

I just looked at their schedule and per current rankings they'll play 7 ranked teams all year and 5 of them are home games.

They also won't play a single team in the non-con outside of ISU that makes it to the NCAA Tournament. Possibly Utah State but they'll likely miss it.

I worry a bit about our trap, if you can reverse it 3s are wide open, if we just play them straight up man, I think it would be tough for Iowa, but we aren't going to do that.
I've been worrying about this too. I've almost wondered if we should start out in straight man. We are more athletic than them and should be able to guard them that way. If we prevent them from getting off to a good start, then start trapping.

Love that we are top 10 in both offense and defense - we've never done that before.

Our gap between TO% offensively (12.9%) vs defensively (23.8%) is insane - I didn't realize we were doing that well limiting TOs on offense. Iowa does force a lot, so it'll be a key.

And Iowa is a horrible rebounding team - hitting the offensive glass will be a key. This is a Presidents game - and Chatfield could really do well, he's by far the most prolific offensive rebounder, getting almost 20% of our misses while on the floor

But the game will come down to this:
View attachment 139467

Iowa is giving up a really high percentage on two-pointers. We are shooting an amazing percentage on two-pointers, really across the board. Jackson and Jefferson have a high percentage, and Keshon, Tamin and Curtis have all increased their percentage greatly. If we can keep with the trends on this, we will win.
I am looking forward to watching Fran's patented Ole' defense.

Payton Sandfort - Waukee, Iowa
Pryce Sandfort - Waukee, Iowa
Josh Dix - Council Bluffs, Iowa
Even Brauns - Iowa City, Iowa
Owen Freeman - Moline, Illinois
Brock Harding - Moline, Illinois
Cooper Koch (Legacy Recruit) - Peoria, Illinois
Carter Kingsbury (Legacy "Recruit") - Ponca, NE

That's what 8/13 scholarship players look like.

I’m a broken record on this, but there is one small silver lining to an Iowa win tonight for us. Anything that might keep Fran around longer is fantastic. I believe there are some really good coaches out there who would/will be very interested in the Iowa job when it comes open.

Maybe Heise will be our secret weapon since UNI players seem to be lights out vs ISU and Iowa.
I was just thinking this - I suspect he'll be asked to shut down Sandfort when he comes in. It's also a great game for him to pick up some easy buckets on the offensive glass - we haven't really seen his rebounding show up yet.

It
should be the goal of every non howk to give Red Face Fran a lifetime contract.

I think it's the only way they beat us. Getting hot at the 3 line and hitting their free throws. We play them 10 times we would beat them 9-10. However, there is always that one anomoly where everything goes right. It's like when UNI beats us in a sport when they have no business being on the same court as us. I am talking myself into thinking this game is gonna go wrong for us. If we play our normal game, we should beat them by 15-20 points.

There are all sorts of reasons the game gets me nervous, but the thing that makes me confident is ISU is a lot better than Utah State, Michigan and Northwestern which is the best they've faced and ISU has faced Auburn, Marquette and Dayton that are all a lot more talented than Iowa.
