All four of the teams that lost there over the last decade were (at the least) very flawed. The best was Prohm’s team with Shayok and Horton-Tucker. Talented team but wildly inconsistent. The 2022 team was reliant on hot shooting from Gabe Kalscheur to score. Hunter was still figuring things out.
We didn't have Hunter in 2022. He was at Texas. We had Tamin as a freshman PG who was a baby at the time.

2016: Senior led back court but our front court was up in the air with zero reliability. We went 8-30 from three and only shot 9 FTs.

2018: One of the most talented teams we've had but incredibly flawed. Horrible defense mixed with an abundance of other issues (Cam Lard hadn't played until that game & Wigginton didn't play due to a foot injury).

2020: Good God we sucked.

2022: We know how bad we were offensively and it reared its ugly head that day. Went 3-22 from 3 and shot 7 FTs.

Was Hunter on that team? I thought he transferred after the 21-22 season.
You’re right. The team that lost at Iowa in ‘22 was the one that snuck into the tournament and got absolutely blitzed by Pitt. No offense to Holmes. He’s an awesome guy, but he’s no Keshon Gilbert.

I love that Hassel got this in before the game. Even he knows this talking point will be void in 12 hours, but not doing it wastes a great troll opportunity.

Respect the hustle!
Can't stand him. He's essentially become a burner account but our fanbase feeds into it. I'll admit, he's good at getting a rise out of people but when your shtick is to troll, you're not a serious person.

Oh totally agree.

Nobody that likes Hassel thinks he's a great analyst or game caller. He's just a tavern Hawk who does his Twitter act over the air waves. Some people will just eat that up, but it's pretty transparent.

Yeah for me it has little to do with his Iowa fan persona. It's the fact that he now talks about Iowa State more than he does Iowa, and he also is VERY condescending in how he talks down to Iowa State fans and tell them how they should or should not feel.

I genuinely like Hassel. I like his takes on all sports, like his takes on ISU, like that he's a grounded realistic Iowa fan, like that he's REALLY funny.

We're insanely lucky to have him on a podcast that covers ISU. He's light years better than anybody who has had a national sports radio show since I've been listening the past 25 years. Basically just a fluke that an A+ daily sports radio guy happened to grow up an Iowa fan.

No matter the score, ISU just has by far the better roster and team. This year more than maybe any year.

I actually expect Iowa to hoist a ton of threes and win tonight because they happen to make them. This past 10-15 years where ISU has really pulled away post-McD the Iowa team just cares about the game more because they usually have more local players. Now this year with ISU having a #3 they also get the same motivation some mediocre ISU teams get when we play Kansas at home.

It'll be fun if ISU wins, but mean practically nothing when this team is built for a 1/2 seed in the NCAA and a regular season B12 title.

If someone on the ISU team is to repeat "the Carver kiss", who should it be?

I've said it before but it's also not a bad loss since it's at a rival and Iowa's likely at least bubbleish.

If they win they can have at it while they go on to lose some random home game to a bad team later on.

I generally like him. He's talented and funny. I hate that he constantly ***** on ISU, and all we have is CW and Van Winks, who are terrible at **** talking. Most of the time, CW just agrees with Hassel or talks up Iowa players.

ISU will be fine as long as Mad Fran doesn't use the Crane technique

The #3 by our name will make it even more their superbowl than usual.

It's not like football where Iowa's #20ish program takes on ISU's #33ish program and both teams have about the same amount of home grown kids. It's an on average 15ish ISU program trending up vs a generation of total mediocrity and Iowa almost always is led by tavern hawk kids who kids who were literally born into a hawkeye jersey.

Momcilovic is the most likely. He's kind of a goofy kid although you don't see it a lot in interviews or on the court. Keshon would get them the most pissed off. If there's one thing Iowa fans hate, it's a guy with dreads lighting them up and taunting them.
