I thought it was a little predictable, but I agree, I get why it was called. Getting him to the outside where our DBs weren't interested in tackling him would've been a better call, but I get it.

I'm not sure, but I think the math supported all of Aranda's 2-point calls. Down 15, you have to get a two-point conversion at some point, so the thought is that you do it right away, so you know what you have to do regardless of the outcome.

I think analytics do favor it, but I’ve never liked doing it early on because of the possessions downside I mentioned. Up until that 4th stop our D was letting Baylor take an awful lot of time off the clock

We did get lucky on that drop on the second try. The play was there.

Lincoln Riley getting beat to Cal. OU loses. Iowa State wins. What a great day. The only way it would be better is if KF lets junior loose for a press conference.
Our Hawk friends will be overjoyed when Brian finally steps out of the shadow of father Kirk, and realizes his full potential.

Not on the second to last score. The TD put them down 15, so you should kick the PAT to go down 14 every time. I didn't understand what the hell he was doing there.

Lots of good things today, against BU today, but some obvious learning points including
- Fumbling snap on 3rd and short
- letting Shapen take advantage of mismatch on long TD pass
- failing to run the ball once on first and goal from the 5 in 4th qtr
- giving up int and TD in 1st half

But, overall, solid and efficient today. Was almost a boring win, which is what want to see in road conference game. Clean up the items above and come back ready to put the hurt on ku next week.

I’ve been a Cyclone fan for a very long time. I’m sure that some of my fellow long timers will understand this.

When I was a student, ISU had a top flight secondary. Three words: Land Shark Arnaud.

However, that went downhill fast about the time Jim Criner showed up and started recruiting thugs for his defensive backfield.

Over the next couple of decades, Cyclone coaches were so desperate for talent that they made huge sacrifices, trading size for speed and athleticism. There were a couple of starting corners who were listed at 5’7”…and I’m pretty sure were more like 5’6”. In shoes.

So, when a highly athletic 6’2” 200 corner who is a likely high NFL draft pick goes out, and we can replace him with a 6’4” 195 corner who is at least as athletic, if not a shade faster…that’s almost a shock to my system.

Good times!

I am grateful for the "must win" today.
I am a bit disappointed we didn't stomp on their throat when we could have.

and I know we can not change the past, but my gosh, Ohio and Iowa are head scratching right now. Hard to believe we beat Ohio, we are bowl eligible.

we have 4 games to win 1. No remaining games are easy. BYU on the road is not an easy game.

At the Oklahoma State game I told my Dad that for several years I just always thought Iowa State was going to win. It was such a weird feeling (but fun!). And if they lost, I wouldn't worry because I thought they'd get it back the next week. It made 2022 and the start of this year so much worse because I didn't have that feeling anymore. I really wanted that back and it seems to be coming back!

I guess. But few games are 'easy'. Penn State didn't have an easy game today. Last week Texas didn't have an easy game. At 17-0 I'm sure we all had visions of 45-7 or something. But very rarely does that happen. We were in control the entire game and you can't hope for much more than that.

These coaches really have to get over chasing points on the XP chances. If they kick the extra point after their last score, they are only down 8 and have the momentum, but they go for 2, it gets stuffed and now they are down 9 and go back to needing two scores and lost the momentum that they gained by scoring.
I think after having the kicker launch a ball into his OL, with the weather conditions they didn’t trust him any more.

Seriously. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a placekicker hit his own linemen before.

We only have one game against the bottom fourth of the conference.
True, but of the teams that have 2 conference wins or less, 7 total, we play 4 of those teams, Baylor, Cinn, TCU and BYU. We also play all the team in the top of the conference. But its not exactly like the SEC west or the Big easy east division either here.

  • #47 freshman Kooper Ebel. No he did not post crazy stats. Yes - I am super excited to see him play more, he at 6"4 , 225 lbs and quick feet looks like a AJ Klein/MIke Rose talent. He's going to be good.

  • Seems to me that Jacob Ellis disappeared after the first couple of games. Is he hurt, or did Kooper beat him out? Or maybe both?

That was a game that I thought we left too many points on the board in the first half…and them also looked good. I was comfortable, but it happy at half time. Second half looked good up to the point where we scored a td…then the wheels fell off for most of the second half. Defensive ugliness combined with subpar offensive play…and sometimes weird play calling. Becht had what I think was his worst game of the year. And the clones still won. Crisis averted.
First, congrats to Campbell and the team on getting things turned in a better direction. ISU took care of business against the teams that look like they will end up on the lower end of the conference standings. Now comes some tougher teams.

Here's the crazy thing...if ISU can start cleaning up the things mentioned above, they can play in the Big 12 Championship game. None of the other teams left on the schedule seem like world beaters.

The Big 12 is a points scoring conference. Every winning team today so far (3 of which are on ISU's upcoming schedule) scored 30 or more points. (38, 35, 41, 41, 30). I expect in these next games, ISU's defense is going to give up more points then they have been to this point. I think it would be next to a miracle for ISU to hold all of the remaining opponents under 30 points. For ISU to win these upcoming games, the offense cannot leave points on the field like today.

In the past, IMO, ISU has not been great at cleaning up the sloppy stuff as the season progresses. If Campbell can somehow manage to do that over these next 4 games, ISU will be contending for a spot in the CCG. Yeah, the league isn't full of Bulldogs and Wolverines, but so what.
