You are home on a Sunday evening, significant other is out of town. just finished your 5th beer when your young child gets stung by numerous wasps and is having a massive allergic reaction. No epinephrine around, throat is swelling shut, 15 minutes tops to get to a hospital.

If you drove your kid to the hospital, I would defend that decision even if you wouldn't.
They're dead, maybe this is the wakeup call dad needed to not be a drunk mess, he and his wife will redeem themselves with their next kid who will be on the honor roll and attend Brown University majoring in Electrical Engineering.

So you would defend the parent even if they crashed and killed their child and a child in another vehicle. I can make false dilemmas too.
That parent would and should be held accountable for the outcome of their decisions through the court system, but yes I would defend the choice they made to attempt to save the life of their child.

Nice attempt, people here are superior in every way and always have made the correct choices in life and never once had an issue with morals or ethics. They are perfect in every way, now bow before them.

Don't be mad at others because you made poor choices, be optimistic that you can do better in the future. There are probably people that believe in you, not here so much, but somewhere maybe.

I have atoned for my sins, I spent an evening in the nevada county correctional facilities due to a public intox when I was 21. I have been rehabilitated by Story county.

Some jobs should absolutely be lost over drunk driving. As a parent I wouldn't willfully send my kid off to be coached by someone this irresponsible. It would be funny seeing him pull up to your house to recruit your kid on a bicycle rather than in a university vehicle. Driving is part of the job in a company vehicle so yes he should absolutely lose his job.

I would call for their head if either TJ or Campbell got an OWI as I have zero tolerance for it as I stated in another thread recently.

ISU/Hoiberg kept Cornell Mann when he got an OWI the day after his hire was announced.

I never said that. I have simply stated that I have never driven buzzed or drunk. Primary reason? I don't like getting drunk. I don't like not being able to control my actions. Have I been drunk in the past? Yes. Have I been tipsy (buzzed) more recently? Yes. But I have never driven in that condition.

Certainly can argue that, along with the degree of impairment 5 beers would actually make, but that isn't the question: I presented a circumstance where I would absolutely defend that parent's decision to try to save the life of their child. Previous poster had implied that they would not make that decision and would apparently let their child die.

Per that post: UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE is drinking and driving defensible.
Under no circumstances would I defend a parent drinking alone, five beers into it, as the sole parent providing supervision to a child. But, skip all that.

It's still not defensible and in fact he gives her less of a chance of survival on multiple fronts. Even 100% sober, and if this is truly life or death, his best choice is to call 911 to get emergency responders on the scene.

The EMT response time to his house providing immediate epinephrine aid is going to be far faster than him navigating traffic to get to a hospital to process thru an ER to get a shot of epinephrine. In the meantime, if she needs CPR, he will have a capable team in his house or on the way vs still navigating his way to the hospital with a suffocating daughter in the passenger seat.

Or a responsible parent would have an epi pen ready to deal with the allergy, but since they are getting drunk while being the sole adult the whole responsible parent thing was already gone.

Did you know about the wasp allergy thing before? Or are you just discovering for the first time?

And even if you’re going to say it would be acceptable in that case, it’s mostly just being pedantic. Unless you’re drafting laws or policies, I feel like there is typically an invisible asterisk around “never acceptable” to exclude unrealistic hypothetical situations.

I'd just like to suggest here that those champions finding reasons to defend drunk driving start their own thread with a nice title like "The Acceptable Times to Drink and Drive." That would be the fitting place to impress yourselves with your drunken heroics.
I like that.

Back on topic, one of three WVU players, kerr kriisa, who announced he was going to the portal has decided to stay.
