Marketing, baby!

If Purdy can win a championship he can market himself as Mr Irrelevant and print money as a player and when he finally hangs it up.

Mr Irrelevant is GREAT! The underdog who made good. Who doesn't love that story and wouldn't mind having him as a paid speaker?
He will be mentioned every single year come draft time.

The title also makes no sense. The 49ers didn't throw a dart at a dart board with names on it... Everyone taken in the draft is relevant to the draft. Whoever coined that term or uses it should crack open a dictionary.

It's tongue in cheek. They throw events for Mr. Irrelevant every year before the season. That pick gets more shine than most. Some of you are taking it too seriously.

Agreed. Obviously Brock is on a different level at the moment relative to the others who have carried the title, but for most of them is it a big NFL moment. They get a week of appearances and media attention the guy drafted right before them never gets. Brock embraced it, can't say I've really followed others. Might be a few guys that take themselves a little too seriously and can't just enjoy the moment, but seems like a cool event for one player and his family every year that, more often than not, is getting close to the end of their football journey.

Mr. Irrelevant shouldn’t go anywhere. And the nice thing is, if Brock continues his current trajectory, every time the last pick in the draft comes up during the next 50 years, analysts are going to say, “Could he be the next Brock Purdy?” which is quite a compliment.

If they stop doing Mr Irrelevant does Brock get to keep that cool surfboard?

I doubt he cares at all about that moniker. If anything it’s fun and a reminder of the odds he’s overcome.

Going with the Niners all the way, normally have rooted for Packers and Chiefs, but I think the Niners have supplanted them.
I haven’t been able to stand the Niners since Montana, but with my Packers basically blowing another “playoff” game at home, I am rooting hard for the Niners. Also despise Cheat Carroll and Geno “Wally Assaulter” Smith. And in addition to Brock, have a spot in my heart for Christian McCaffery. Will have to stomach Kittle, at least he is good at the football.
