Although we'd hope one of the oldest college teams in America wouldn't be affected, I wonder if Iowa getting blasted by Duke 2 days earlier, then getting home at 5:00 A.M., and Murray being hurt, fed into overconfidence. Both on the part of players and coaches.

This team can be very solid, competitive with anybody, but isn't good enough to overlook anyone.

You turned off the 'better' half. LOL

Honestly, that game was worth turning off. I was a glutton for punishment and watched the entire debacle.

I got to the 8 minute mark iirc. Was hoping ISU would sharpen up and come out after halftime to at least make it a little weird but it was pretty much rimse and repeat.

I'm hoping this is this the worst game we play this year.
I only lasted 5 minutes into it. It was clear to be that the team still hadn't even gotten off the bus yet.
Checked online about an hour later and we were down 29. I hated being right.

It was pretty clear halfway into the first half that we weren't hitting any shots (long/short, didn't matter), Iowa was hitting (everything), and we weren't playing good defense.

We kept hesitantly trying to either go inside, or sling a 3, both to no avail. IMO we should have looked more for the midrange game, even a few shots a foot or three inside the arc. We should have tried to get something going, tried looking a little more free and sharp doing it. Don't stick with something that isn't working.

I guess that might be a coaching experience and we could try a different approach the next time we can't hit the hammer on the head. The boys are in need of a defensive gut check, but also need to get some confidence shooting the damn ball. Make some baskets.

It was beyond horrible.

That is not a burn the tape situation. Force these guys to watch it repeatedly, all year. These games absolutely do matter. Really disappointed in the effort. Defensive rotations, hustling, rebounding, moving feet laterally, reacting to adversity and crowd noise - the worst of the TJ era so far. Seeing iowa "out-tough" Iowa State - that should bother TJ for awhile.
Get that it was ugly, but we were really only out-toughed for the first 10 minutes. It was, unfortunately, enough to be the difference. The score was Iowa 55 Iowa State 54 the rest of the way.

The beginning of the game reminded me of the 2003 game vs. KU -- I think we fell behind 22-2, went on to lost by 29. ... That was at Hilton, so it was even worse.
How about the Baylor game down in Waco last March, right before the Big XII Tournament? I want to say we were down something like 29-5 at one point, and actually did charge back to cut it to 1 or even took a lead at one point, only to end up losing by 4 or 5. Was definitely ok with the moral victory after the way that one started.

That's a good example, too ... I recalled getting quite a ways behind, but forgot it was that lopsided. At least we were able to battle back in that one, somehow.

After the first 10 minutes last night, we were almost dead even with Iowa. We just weren't hitting enough shots to close the gap.

We had a horrible night, and EIU started hot and continued the entire game. They matched their season high in made 3 pointers with 12, and their best player did not even suit up. The crowd got into it, and ISU started pressing and throwing up silly shots.
It sucks, but it happens to every team, every now and then. Do I think that if they played tonight, EIU could shoot the same tonight, no, but it doesn't matter.

We had a bad game, flush it and move on.

Pretty sure Sears runs that Twitter account and he’s one of the biggest hawk homers next to Downs and TC
Just watched the Channel 17 sports (which I rarely do). Sears sounded like an Iowa Fan Boy showing the Hawkeye highlights in defeat and was matter of fact on the ISU men, ISU women and Purdy highlights with a little jump in his voice with the pass from the Cyclone (Purdy) to the Hawkeye (Kittle). lol. Matters not to me, but I thought of this post when I heard his intonation. Another jump in his voice for Mahomes and the Chiefs. I'll take that all day, every day. Hawkeyes Lose! Cyclones Win. Cyclones Win. Purdy wins debut. Chiefs win.
