Man Abandons Rats

$1000 and 50 hours community service sounds like a fair punishment, but what if the rats were puppies instead. What if he abandoned 72 dogs after cramming them into a single cage and the puppies weren't found for a couple days. Does $1000 and 50 hours seem like a fair punishment for that?
The rats were his pets, and a pet is a pet. I think he deserves worse. It is animal cruelty.

bostinelosd.... My family WAS killed by ninjas, and I take great offense to that avatar. The bum is making a mockery of a truely difficult time in my life just so he can make a buck. Both of you should be ashamed of yourselves.
I cant apologize for loss. Ninjas dont show up on your doorstep unless you did something to bring them there.
i think he should get an award. those disgusting things deserve all the torture they got and maybe a little more.
this is no different then those glue traps that get put out for them and those are sold at your local hardware store. a glue trap could get several rats stuck on there for days.
I dont like those stupid traps either, but then the rat gets a choice doesnt it? A guy cramming them all in closed containers and leaving them on the side of the road is cruel.
WRONG! This is way different. These rats were his PETS!!! Mouse traps kill animal infestations. They kill mice that come into your house unwelcomed. The rats in his case were brought in his house by choice as a pet. If the story replaced the word "rat" with "pet" and never let on that it was about 72 rats, I think you would have a different reaction....your reaction would probably be, "why does this guy have 72 pets?"
maybe it is a little cruel but the rats in the cages and the rats stuck to the glue traps died the same way. starving or eaten by another rat stuck next to it and the guy who puts out the glue trap doesnt get fined.
the guy who did this is a complete moron. first off he had rats in his house. second he left them buy the road. why wouldnt he throw them in the woods or the river? if he threw them in the river at least they would have been dead in 5 minutes and nobody would have known.
He could have just let them go in the woods. The guy isnt a genius by any means and the fact that he has a child scares me.
as long as those woods are not near my house or anybody else. if that had happened this guy would have been in a cage for several days.
