I absolutely do not understand the angst over this... This is good for Iowa State all around.
Look... SEC and B10 are already set to make 30+ million more for TV rights than the rest of us. Who cares. The important part is that the B12 has a basically guaranteed seat at the table. The extra team for them in the playoff won't affect anything we do.
Think about it.. so what if the B10 gets 3 teams in, or the SEC does the same. They still have to play the playoff games. Don't we all spout off on how some of the teams from SEC or B10 are "fake ID's" and don't play anybody? The playoff will expose them.
Not to mention... with OU leaving, we have an absolute chance at a conference championship as long as we keep doing what we are doing. Heck, we almost won the stupid thing against OU a couple of years ago.
If you thought risk of the Big 12 not having any access was high, it’s a good day. But that risk was very low imo. And it’s technically not an auto for Big 12. The only thing this is better than is a straight top-12
The CFP expansion was needed to allow P2 expansion and further consolidation, but this setup isn’t good for the leftovers getting to a 3rd conference setup. It won’t stop P2 expansion but it could fool the weak P5s into not consolidating and instead more backfilling, which further dilutes and expedites the day the P2 do actually separate.
It’s imperative that when the P2 are at 20+ schools, the leftovers get into 1 conference. A PAC backfilling with Mountain West or ACC with American, competing for 1 bid each, while adding even more G5 dna to leftovers “middle class is what we must avoid. The setup has locked in at least 4 non-P2 berths, and 3 of those being distributed across 3 rump conferences of a combined 32+ schools is a path to pseudo G8 setup. Aggregate those 3 across 20-24 leftover schools, and it’s a P3 in terms of CFP access
