Yeah, if they are here, I think that is the most likely scenario. And the fact that some of the earliest reported sightings from the most credible people coincided with nuclear testing supports this idea. Humans first splitting the atom is a monumental moment in our history to A) observe, and B) make sure we don’t screw it up.
There are many reports like this one listed below. Too many to say they are just nuts.

Familiar with the name only.
So Long and Thanks for all the Fish, is one of the books in the series. The dolphins leave the planet, making humans one of the smarter species behind mice which are conducting experiments on us all.

How do you know this? What about the U.S.?? What about private entities? You and I have no idea. Pretty sure it's not aliens.

Because this isn't technology that is 10 or 20 years ahead of where we are right now, this stuff seems to be centuries beyond our technology. It would require many huge breakthroughs in our understanding of physics, energy, propulsion, materials, manufacturing, and on and on. This isn't something that could be accomplished by a small group of people in a covert government program. It would require major efforts from academia, defense, the commercial sector over many, many years. You just couldn't make this many advances and keep it all quiet.

Yes! And we need to catch these slippery bastards and study their habits/technology openly. I don't understand why the population would freak out if we publicly caught one of these aliens. We need some life changing technology and soon.

And you know this how? Did you just get back from a top secret briefing from the highest levels of our military? You're right. The government and military never keep secrets because it would be too hard.

Do you think aliens built the pyramids too?

I will say, I have no idea how ancient Egyptians built the pyramids basically perfect and lined up with true north.

Because he understands our current understanding of physics and aerospace technology, as well as that shown by the unidentified flying objects recorded by the military.

Your last question is entirely irrelevant to the discussion in this thread, and makes you look both petty and silly.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't understand our current understanding of physics and aerospace technology. Neither do you. Neither do I.

But you're right. It's got to be aliens. Talk about silly.

He is absolutely correct in his statement that the technology shown would require those massive breakthroughs in the fields he described. Yes, I think we have a much better idea than you do on this subject. Based on your posts I don’t believe you have even read about this before and learned what experts think. Nor do I believe you have discussed it with aerospace engineering experts.

Your main contributions to the the thread have been “durrr Chewbacca” and a terrible joke about pyramids.

Yeah, these are the incidents I was thinking of. These are all decorated, respected officers who made these reports and described these events. All with high level security clearance. They certainly aren’t any drunks off the street or people with agendas.

There is definitely a pattern of these events. And it makes sense that if anyone with this type of technological advancement was trying to help our species out.. well this would be the time and place.

I've got an aerospace degree from our favorite academic institution so I think I may have a little bit of familiarity with the subject matter.

As hard as it may be for us to wrap our heads around this, it's far more likely for humans to be interested in humans than for far flung intelligent life to care about our dead-end mongrel species. However, IF beings are our there, we'll never know them by anything but the probes they send our way, whether it be Oumuamua or the nifty little drones refered to in the OP.
False alarm, probably.

Hey me too ('94!), but I do think it is possible that there's some kind of Area 51 program messing with quantum physics type stuff that could be some of this. e.g. the rapidly darting small objects the Navy pilots saw - maybe that is some kind of "new physics test drone" or something. The stealth fighter was top secret as heck for a decade or 2; though admittedly that was much less a tech leap.

I do also believe it is possible it is alien tech.

It could also be some kind of spoofing tech (hologram projection?) that the pilots are seeing, and is real, but isn't what it appears to be. Woudl explain how it moves so fast in bizzarre directions, disappears quickly, etc. If you could make enemy pilots (or tank drivers, or drone operators, or foot soldiers, etc) see something that isn't there... that's a heck of a tactical advantage.

Guess that's what is fun about it, the speculation. The good news is if it IS aliens, and they were hostile... we'd be dead already. So we got that going for us...

I'm trying picture an alien race coming all the way here, looking at this burning dumpster fire of a mess, and thinking, hey, we should help these guys out. It's not working lol

Exactly the same as looking to pull into at a tiny, rundown, redneck town on the interstate but then decide to just "keep driving to the next stop"

I think it's ignorant to assume we're the only intelligent life that has been or even will be. But on the grand scale of the timeline of the universe, assuming that our timeline halfway lines up with someone else's is very unlikely.

This bump was a fun read. I'm a huge fan of the Fermi Paradox and anyone interested in understanding the true scale of the universe should read it. Its basically statistically impossible that there isn't life out there but is it intelligent and is it existing within the same time as us is the question.

As many stars as there are in our galaxy (100 – 400 billion), there are roughly an equal number of galaxies in the observable universe—so for every star in the colossal Milky Way, there’s a whole galaxy out there. All together, that comes out to the typically quoted range of between 1022 and 1024 total stars, which means that for every grain of sand on every beach on Earth, there are 10,000 stars out there.

There’s also a debate over what percentage of those sun-like stars might be orbited by an Earth-like planet (one with similar temperature conditions that could have liquid water and potentially support life similar to that on Earth). Some say it’s as high as 50%, but let’s go with the more conservative 22% that came out of a recent PNAS study. That suggests that there’s a potentially-habitable Earth-like planet orbiting at least 1% of the total stars in the universe—a total of 100 billion billion Earth-like planets.
So there are 100 Earth-like planets for every grain of sand in the world. Think about that next time you’re on the beach.
