How does Randy Edeker still have a job? He and his leadership team have absolutely buried Hy-Vee.
So when they say they want corporate level employees to move to retail, what exactly does that mean? Store managers? Department managers within a store? Cart corraler?

Imagine how much they could've saved if they'd scrapped those godawful commercials and the huge fees they paid Barrymore, Simmons, Wahlburg, Cousins...

I’ve noticed people in this thread noting that Fareway is getting more expensive though?

I fully expect the cost of groceries to be elevated at the moment with everything going on. But they don't have a police force or bath bombs or shoe stores or nail salons in their stores. And the customer service is superior. So ... I'm OK with it.

Hint" they don't want them to move to retail jobs. It's all a ploy for them to avoid severance and unemployment benefits. They are literally offering office folks cashier positions in order to skirt around having to pay them entitled benefits.

So is Walmart, that’s the inflation part. Hy-Vee’s problem is they were already way overpriced.

Don’t really have sympathy on the pharmacy fees. We used to have three pharmacies in town who they threatened to drive out of business if the pharmacists didn’t just go work for them.

They need to cut Randy and get smart people in corporate.

Not sure all the money they dumped into Marky Mark, Caitlin Clark, or NFL quarterbacks is really paying off as much as competent leadership would.

This. The severance is a no go, but that kind of a change in job duties would qualify them for unemployment if they quit. Hy-Vee knows most people don'tknow this and the second they perform the new duties the opportunity to collect unemployment is over.

I was somewhat amazed at my Fareway online order before Easter where I put a note to have the meat department cut my packaged ham into dinner slices and they did it just right like they would if I was actually in the store.

Testifying
Fareway has a 10 year plan of adding 70 more stores and another distribution center somewhere so they can expand their footprint even further. And doing all of this with cash on hand.

Fareway is growing like HyVee was back in the 80's and 90's. They have a small store design and they do a good job utilizing every square foot. They aren't throwing up these mega stores with tons of expensive dead space in them and departments full of regret.

Fareway meat counter: "yes, we can cut some steaks to the thickness you want. Just give us a few minutes and we will have it ready for you"

Hy Vee meat counter: "I'm sorry, all we have is pre-packaged stuff"

HOLY CRAP
They recently made some financial moves that will allow them to expand rapidly over the next 10 years. Every store they build isn't financed, it's all money they have in their coffers. They are building more meat markets in the Kansas City area since those are wildly popular, including remodeling some of the first ones in KC because the building is just too small for their demand. And now they will be adding a fresh produce section along with the standalone meat markets. So their top two profit margin items sharing a brick and mortar.

They do a very good job of utilizing space and not carrying dead products. They've spent a lot of time and money in being as efficient as possible and its paying off.

Once, I asked them if they had chorizo. They didn't have any in the counter, but they were able to make some for me in less than five minutes.
