My BIL is a deputy. He picks up stuff on the side all the time and makes pretty good money doing it. There are worse things than hanging out at a wedding reception for 3 or 4 hours and walking out with $500.

It seems that Hy Vee badly needs a change in leadership (mainly Randy Edeker). Not only all of these bad business decisions recently, but how the layoffs were handled was terrible (ripping employees and blaming the media).

So how does a company like Hyvee, who is privately employee owned, fire and hire the top guy at the company? Who makes those decisions? Is there a board of directors? Honest question because I do not know how that would work.

It seems as though they put zero thought into the value of positive public relations.

Public relations can't do much in the face of an acute PR crisis (like this layoff outcry), and it can't do a heck of a lot to paper over years of bad decisions and a CEO who relishes acting like an a**hole in public.

The best way to avoid bad PR is to avoid doing bad stuff.

Some suggestions:
Where there's an armed cop where you shop
Where there's a man with a gun where your shopping's done
Where there's a uniformed man near the soda cans

I know they're terrible. Give me time.
Much better than most of their commercials where they kill an already crappy pop song.

Well with what a cart of Hyvee groceries would cost, your 2nd one would be good to escort you to your car.:)

Not sure on how it would happen. I would guess that there is some sort of board.

Since he took over, there has been a shift in mentality with the company, and not for the better.

There was a highly contentious Slack conversation in the corporate-wide channel when it was announced that they were doing this. Someone actually ended up walking out as a result of that conversation after getting pretty heated and saying some things they probably shouldn't have (though myself and many others agreed with them 100%). It was not a popular decision and made many start to really question their decision to continue working there.

Anything the Slack channel indicate where this idea came from? Seems like it came out of left field.

No. There is virtually zero transparency at that place. They don't feel the need to explain basic decisions, let alone controversial ones.

There was a lot of speculation though. What I suspect is that it's an attempt to prevent or protect against an active shooter situation.

Regardless of the reason, some pointed out that it was really bad optics for the company. IIRC, it was first announced not too long after the verdict in the George Floyd case. Of course there were some that were supportive of it.

There is a board of directors. Randy is the chairman.

But who elects that board? In a public company, the board is selected by the public shareholders. How do they get selected at Hyvee?

Appreciate the info!
