How much of HWY 30 is 4 and how much is 2-lane between Marshalltown and Cedar Rapids?

Not much from Tama to several miles west of CR, last I recall. I don't think they've done more building yet.

Make that trip alot.

Marshalltown to the Casino is all 4 lane.

The first 24 miles from Tama to CR are 2-lane. The remaining 21 miles is 4-lane.

Hmm, so do I. Apparently I don't pay attention. I thought there was some 2-lane between Legrand and Tama.

From Marshalltown to the casino, anyway. That's where it ends.

Once upon a time, US 30 was supposed to be four lane from Chicago to Omaha by 2010. I don't see that happening.

Nothing against it but wouldn't that be kinda stupid since I-80 does the same thing?

They finished that about three or four years ago, when the bridges and bypass were completed. Had to have 4-lane to the casino from DM, after all.

Last week was the first time in 5 years that I had taken 30 to Ames. I had forgotten how much I despise the two lane from DeWitt to east of CR and then the two lane from the Hwy 218 intersection all the way to Tama.

No, the point was to take pressure off of I-80 without making it three lane across Iowa. It takes a little wear and tear, you see.

Lots of the rebuild from like a decade ago is already looking like it needs replaced. I don't think that's the preferred timeframe.

No. I-80 is an overpacked mess. We need 30 to be 4 lane at least to Boone, and Highway 20 needs to be 4 lane from border to border. It isn't just about the average driver, it is about shipping things too. NW Iowa is a dead zone with no 4 lanes there, and it is hurting Iowa businesses. The powers that be want to keep all the cross state traffic coming through Des Moines, and it needs to be stopped.

Daughter lives in Cedar Rapids we live South of Ames so take this a lot. We will be glad when they get the by pass done which will route 30 around Toledo and Tama. They started on it last Summer.

It will supposively be 4 lane from Colo to Marshalltown in the next 5 years. I doubt that will happen.
