I've never said to myself, "I wish I hadn't taken that shower."
About the closest I've ever come was on RAGBRAI. It was the start town of RAGBRAI. We had just had a sweaty, several hour ride in our old school bus team bus and we were camping for the night. We were told that there were two houses we could get a shower in. One old beat up house reeked of cat piss the moment you walked in the door. The sink was overflowing with dirty dishes, some of them with moldy food in them. No, not doing that.

I went to the other house and that house was marginally better. The bathroom was grimy, but hey, we experience that on RAGBRAI a lot. When I opened the shower curtain there was a giant hole in the back wall of the shower. I mean a hole as big as my head and you could see studs in there. I tried to take my shower without getting too much water in the hole so I was contortioning myself the whole time. I ended up with a kink in my neck from all that. Oh and did I mention there was no hot water left? When I was getting out and grabbing my towel off the toilet seat I knocked my clothes onto the floor - the grubby, muddy floor.

I probably should have just found a garden hose outside instead.

Stuck on five. Once again, I screwed up and didn't move my two of my three wrongly placed letters. At least this time I got the third correctly placed...and that got me to the wordle.

As I drove in today, I thought "How many teenagers aren't going to be properly dressed because 'it's not cool.'?"
If I went to the store or even better yet the mall I would most likely see at least one guy wearing shorts

When I used to take my daughter to the bus stop for middle school years ago she rode a bus with mostly high schoolers. I knew it was really cold - like below zero cold - when the kid who usually wore shorts and a t-shirt broke down and put long pants and a hoodie on.

I had HUGE arguments with my older son when I would catch him heading out of the house in shorts when there was snow on the ground and temps were hovering around 30. His logic: his car has a heater, the school has heat, what's the problem? Never could impress upon him the very REAL prospect of his car breaking down and him freezing his ass off...

I'm always blown away by the teenagers scampering into Hilton in basketball shorts and a t-shirt, no coats (WITH their parents!). I realize Hilton gets warm but good grief!!

The other funny thing about this. Mrs. Velo and I were talking with one of our teammates about that shower. She and I were saying how we were struggling to keep water out of the hole. He said, "Why? I shot a couple extra shots of water in there just for good measure." :D Funny guy.

Daughter's high school no longer has lockers for students (unless in a sport in which case you get a gym locker). So she really has no place to put a heavy coat, gloves, hat, etc. Dumb, but whatever. So I make her keep a heavy winter coat, gloves, hat, etc. in her car at all times. That stuff just lives in there. Same reasoning.

I decide on coats based on what college I'm teaching at. Some, like William Penn, don't allow coats or clothing with another school's logo. In a case like that, I'll have my coat in the car and just go without for the drive and a (hopefully) short walk on campus.

I had a friend in college who wore shorts and a hoodie every single day.

No lockers for the students? You're supposed to carry your coat around all day? I suppose they no longer have much in the way of books anymore. Everything is probably online.

They carry their books in their backpacks. They don't wear coats.

My daughter wore a zip-up hoodie today. It was -12 (actually temp) when she left to go to her friend's house for the drive to school.
