It was mentioned several times last night that Clemson had no players opt out of the game, how many pros do they have on their roster?

Bad look for a 5 star culture team to have key players sit, they put themselves above the team.

You might as well get used to it, it isn't going to change. And if I had millions on the line why risk playing in the freaking cheeez it bowl and blowing out a knee.

Was sitting with the same group of thinkers last night. I’m sorry but no one that is saying that Hall should have played would if they were In his shoes.

Here is my example to make it easier: you are offered what would end up being millions of dollars at a new job doing data entry or anything with your hands so you need to begin preparing for it. The only thing is if you continue at your current job where you aren’t getting paid anything but minimum wage there are random people coming up with a club taking swings at your hands. If you get hit once you lose out on that new job. No one would show up to that minimum wage job and they would begin preparing for the new one. Period end of discussion

It's the Cheez It Bowl, calm down. Hard to blame someone who is definitely getting drafted from sitting out of their bowl games.

Times have changed, and it's not 1988 anymore. The CFP has changed people's perceptions of the bowls to the point, where they're not nearly as important to kids/fans as they once were.

If my kid was in the same situation as Breece or Rose, I can't say I'd disagree with their decision.

If losing millions is the primary concern, then after the TTU loss........why play another game for fear of injury? Was playing at the Jack one last time against TCU in a meaningless conference game worth the risk of losing millions? But a post season game against a national power is not?

Why not quit earlier in the season if you're worried about getting injured? We had no shot at a conference title prior to the Oklahoma game.

Well geez, it could have something to do with the proximity of the bowl games to when NFL combine and workout start?

But you are right, I miss the days when we didn't go to bowl games and didn't have players of NFL caliber and we could wonder where they would go hunting in January. No opting out problems then!

I agree, the expanded playoff won't matter though, it'll just keep guys from opting out of the 12 programs instead of 4. The only thing that will get kids to play now is money. Bowl sponsors paying the kids to play in some sort of NIL situation.

The other ugly thing we haven't seen yet is what happens when NIL sponsors start calling the shots on who plays and who opts out.

There will be more teams in the playoff hunt throughout the year than just the 12 that end up making it.

I'd like to see the stats on how many players have had serous injuries in bowl games that lead to them missing out on NFL money. It has to be miniscule.
Unless they get a catastrophic Alex Smith situation they'll bounce back anyways. Cam Akers jsut tore his Achilles in July and is back playing already.
I don't care to know enough about NFL rookie contracts to know what would happen if Breece got injured last night.

It seems like it's an arbitrary decision to me and a new trend that players are doing. Whether or not it helps them put .01 percent better numbers or whatever I don't know. If it's an injury thing, then it makes no sense to why they don't quit earlier.

This thread doesn't exist had we won.

No one likes the system but it makes sense for the players to opt out with so much on the line in the next phase of their career.
This. Hell, take away the volleyball spike and a few of the penalties, and you might have seen a 20-13 ISU win. This was a damn even game that was decided by a few mistakes...pretty good for playing a Clemson without any opt outs that was showing the respect card. Did we play well...nope. Did we play until the end...yep. Did some of our young players have terrific games against a normal CFP team...damn right.

Moving on...

This is the entire premise. Who's to stop these players from calling it a career 6 games into the year? If Breece was truly worried he should have hung it up after the Texas Tech loss.

I officially nominate this for a "Sneak in a Bad Take Before the Year is Over" 2021 Clonie Award.

1998? Its not even 2018 anymore, David Montgomery didn't take the easy way out and he was a 3rd round pick.
Dabo had a good response to this, something along the lines of "Our players are here to win football games".

Protecting their pro career is putting themselves above the team.

What if your son was in that spot? 21-22 years old with no money in his bank account, at the end of his college career, and one major injury away from losing his dream and millions of dollars in future earnings playing professional football?

Would you advise him to risk it all to play in a non-playoff exhibition game so the fans like you can be more entertained?

As far as I'm concerned, these guys earned the right to opt out, and I think it's a little hypocritical for any of us to criticize them for their decision.

Each player has to make their own decision and live with the consequences. It is what it is. Breece gave us a lot, but now he's turning his focus to the NFL.

I would have had them leave after the Fiesta bowl last year lol (if that's what was important to them)

I think what you meant to say is that protecting their pro career is putting them above your wanting to feel all warm and fuzzy because your team won it's bowl game.

Poll the team and ask them what they think they should have done and then get back to us - I mean - if you want to play the 'team' aspect of it.

I don't need to feel warm and fuzzy because we won, I cheer for the Cyclones all day every day. It is sad that you feel warm and fuzzy after a loss, I guess the fanbase hasn't changed much with our recent improvements.
