The Deion Sanders thread

I don’t follow fcs football.

Why is 11-1 Jackson St not in playoff?

This is the hidden benefit of NIL to the non blue bloods. Really levels the playing field when you have someone with connections like Sanders. Shows you that the blue bloods don't have the monopoly any more on 5 star athletes.

Here's something else that's going to be a big disadvantage to the blue bloods because of NIL. Let's say that Texas and LSU are really going after a 5 star quarterback. It will be very easy for someone on social media to falsely put out that a booster from another school besides LSU just offered that kid $500,000 more than Texas just offered and I'll bet the Texas booster would be stupid enough to up his bid based on false information.

Basically the Swac champion has declined the FCS playoff spot since 1999 because of when the last conference games land... particularly the Bayou Classic which is Thanksgiving weekend and the SWAC championship is the next weekend after so they can't do to the playoff. Also the winner of the MEAC doesn't go to the FCS playoff either as they both battle it out at the Celebration bowl MEAC vs SWAC

The 2nd place team In their division FAMU did go to the FCS playoffs though

Here is a way the Big 12 could use NIL to benefit its member schools. Why not negotiate with people with big pockets and offer them this. We add two HBCU schools and see if they would be willing to offer NIL money and throw their weight behind the conference.

so they consider a bowl type of thing above playoffs?

Does the winner of that game ever have a national champ claim or is it like the CUSA and Sun Belt champs playing?

No the HBCUs haven’t really been able to compete with the MVC type teams, although that seems to be changing with Deion. That’s part of the reason they opt out of the playoffs.

It's the Black College and University National Champion. They way make way more money that route than the playoffs. They basically sold 60K for the Celebration Bowl this year

I always liked watching the Grambling vs Southern game when I was growing up. Do they still do that, I haven't hear much about it in years.

I guess I didn’t realize it was that separate.

I do remember hearing about Eddie Robinson and Grambling a lot in the 80s, just didn’t realize the structure of it now.

Yeah it has a name and kicks off the season for them. It's some generic name like the southern game or bayou game or something. I watched it this year.

It used to be the battle of the bands, as the bands were pretty badass

Looks like it's actually played on Thanksgiving time. I must be remembering a different game earlier in the year.

Thats when I remember watching it. I usually watched that and the Florida/Florida State game on Thanksgiving Saturday. That was back when it was rare to have games on that Saturday.

Another tidbit is that the HBCUs conferences are having realignment similar to FBS schools are. There has been rumblings of a Black college FCS super conference
