The Deion Sanders thread

I read that is was supposedly helped by a $1 mil NIL deal from Barstool

Like he already had a million dollar so he could play for an FCS school and not worry that their boosters can't give him the money a school like FSU's boosters can?

If something like that is true I can't imagine it is sustainable or will be indicative of the future. With the possible exception of LeBron James I can't think of a high school athlete that would be marketable enough to merit a million dollar endorsement deal if his next stop wasn't a marquee team at the highest level of his college sport or straight to the pros.

I mean I haven't seen footage of this kid playing high school sports constantly like the entire sports world had been seeing James as a high school kid in Akron.

Maybe we'll find out that the NIL and the money involved distracts these kids and all that comes with having a lot of money. There are adults that couldnt handle that much money without a bender or two, three....

The surprising thing to me is that a corner back was the number 1 overall recruit. Usually its an offensive player like a QB, RB, or WR.

Deion has a podcast for barstool I think so it's for his brand too.

It's definitely not going to help programs like Texas or FSU/Miami that were already getting top recruits and not dominating.

Some of the programs with elite recruits and results (Bama/Georgia/Clemson/tOSU/Etc) might get even stronger though with the 10-20% recruiting boost they are going to get if their boosters move their money from the program to the players.

That makes a lot more sense if it's partly or mostly about marketing a show.

Just a high school kid going straight to FCS football isn't worth a 10k endorsement deal unless it's already some household name phenom the way James was...and even then James would have been worth less endorsement money if he went to play at Jackson State vs the NBA or Ohio State which I believe was the school he would have considered for college.

Saw someone say he can basically play whatever they decide, a complete athlete out there. Makes sense given his ranking.

Having Deion around adds a LOT of media exposure and general interest.

Imagine if Tebow became the head coach at say Troy or something. Whatever NIL you do, its not just the kid but also the exposure of the connection to the other famous name.

Rumors swirling that there was an NIL deal with Penn as well. That would give this some additional context and could potentially make things complicated.

FYI - Deion works for Barstool who is owned by Penn
