She used the testing infrastructure as a reason we are ready to open back up, but the newly announced testing plan isn't anywhere near going yet. It would seem prudent to make sure the testing program gets up and running and you at least start getting some initial data before opening back up. I guess we'll see what gets announced Monday.
I agree. I guess my point is let’s wait until Monday when it sounds like we will learn more. Freaking out about what you think she might do is pointless.

I'm more curious about the higher level. Like, is the supply chain getting replenished at this point, or is it still at the point of stock out?

That's the big question.

The ppe order i'm familiar with just "allows" them to use expired equipment and to reuse equipment that should really only be used for one day or one patient. And by "allows" we really mean it allows the hospital to force their employees to accept this unsafe situation.

If she’s allowing farmers markets to open she might as well allow everything else. Des Moines farmers market gets as busy as a small fair. There’s no room to walk. People breathing down people’s necks. Won’t catch me down there.

What about people breathing down your neck in a private setting?

(Just trying to be funny...and sorta creepy).

Also annouced at the tail end that there will be a TestIowa site up and going in Waterloo on Tuesday and in Cedar Rapids by late next week.

All of those sites will be running 10 hour days so you'd think we'll really start to get some significant testing going.

Sounds like that new model the state was working on with the U of I produced some really positive data and metrics that led to today's decision.

how did you get that?

it seems like kim is ok with outbreaks in plants and nursing homes and for someone reason doesn’t really care about that.

Was my sarcasm not obvious?

There is no model. There probably won't be one. It's faith-based governance.

it seems like if she has data saying 'all clear' she needs to show her work before anyone should trust her. Instead of keeping everything behind lock and key.

I'll be working from home for the next few months regardless and the wife and kids are off school, let's open this **** up and thin out the herd. See you guys on the other side.
Are you going to wait things out till a vaccination arrives? You might be waiting for several years to come out of your house.

Id be surprised if DSM farmers market (as well as some of the other major ones in the metro areas) opens right away. They'll probably make their own call.
The Cedar Rapids gov't has been very critical of Reynolds in their press briefings. I doubt they will open their farmer's market anytime soon.

But yeah, it seems like if she has data saying 'all clear' she needs to show her work before anyone should trust her. Instead of keeping everything behind lock and key.

There no work to show. There is no plan. There never was. This entire effort has been about getting through a tightly-controlled 30-minute press conference each day. That's it.

Take from this what you will

I guess my takeaway is imagine how big that number would be if they didn't shut the state down in mid march! Not only would there be more covid 19 deaths, but more deaths from accidents, homicides, flu, and all that compounded by the crippled healthcare system. Yikes!

looks like 3000 more people died this year than did last year. glad we're continuing to take steps to mitigate any more than that.
While I wouldn’t take it as a sign to change much of what we are doing I find the idea that we had a 61.5% drop in normal deaths pretty suspect.
