I think Xavier should be in good hands. Just look what we've been able to do with solo, jacobson, and conditt the past 2-3 years. and just think what will happen when we play with two bigs. exciting!!

xavier's b12 preparation against 5'11" iowa kids will have him ready to go on day 1.

(kidding...kidding....kidding..just having a little fun with this before we destroy each other on this site next season)

Jacobson was really good with good guard talent around him.

Considering neither Solomon nor Conditt were particularly highly-ranked and Solomon battling injuries, their development arcs are not unexpected.

I do not think Prohm has ever had a post recruit even in Xavier's ballpark.

The Rs-Fr is one of the more athletic guards in the country. He has helped Salt Lake to a 21-4 record and #11 ranking. He is averaging 14.2 ppg and 4.4 apg while shooting 37% from 3. He will have 3 years to play after this season. He is hearing from Washington St, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Iowa St, Nevada, Fresno St, Utah St and FIU

https://www.wholehogsports.com/news/2019/aug/01/former-hog-justice-hill-transfers-jc/

Former Arkansas point guard Justice Hill announced Thursday in a post on his Twitter account that he has transferred to Salt Lake Community College in Utah to play basketball.

He entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal on June 20.

Hill (5-10, 182) committed to former Arkansas basketball coach Mike Anderson on Feb. 14, 2016, enrolled in January. He redshirted and practiced with the team during the second semester of the 2018-19 season. He'll have three years to play three in basketball at his next stop while having four years to play three in football.

He averaged 15 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals as a sophomore and 17.5 points, four rebounds, 3.1 assists and 3.2 steals as a junior at Little Rock Christian.

A two-sport athlete, Hill also had football offers from Auburn, Memphis and Howard when he signed to play basketball in November.

He led Little Rock Christian to the Class 5A state title in football with a 52-38 victory over Pulaski Academy and was named MVP of the game.

Hill has some hops.

Jerry Meyer's evaluation for Hill out of high school...

"A well-rounded, good athlete. Has high-level court vision and thrives on the high degree of difficulty pass. Loves to attack the basket and has a dangerous right-to-left crossover dribble. Shooting is still a work in progress. Has the quickness to hound the basketball defensively."

The comp Meyer gave him is Korie Lucious

I wish Prohm put a premium on shooting like Hoiberg did. I can't take any more of these guys that can't put the ball in the hoop. Guys that he's recruited who were looked at as shooters:

Lewis
Wigginton
Griffin
Jackson
Anderson

And some of those are generous. What did we get/are we getting from that list?

None of our 2020 recruits is known for shooting.

Watched the tape I linked below and was really impressed. It's obviously JuCo and not a direct translation but the numbers look terrific as well - 56% from the field, 42% from three, 82% from the line this year with nice shot mechanics and great size. It looks like Alabama is the first high major to offer.

He's originally from a suburb of Orlando for what that's worth. Hopefully Kane's florida connections can help here.

Pretty sure I have read that Dubar can score on all three levels and Foster is a good jump shooter. But I do like that he is bringing in long athletic types because those are the kind of guys it takes to have a good defense. I think Jackson is going to be a good shooter, he is just a Freshman and not truly ready this year. I also think Grill can be a good shooter he just needs time for the game to slow down.

Definitely like the 56% from the field with 18 points a game. Don't know the competition but that is good regardless.

Lewis was a terrific shooter in high school and has shown spurts in college, but his play on the defensive end and some other issues have decreased his minutes significantly.

Wigginton shot 39.7% from the 3.

I'm really not sure if Griffin was recruited necessarily as a shooter.

Jackson was a good shooter in high school, shows flashes of being a good shooter, but he's a freshman and it's too early to evaluate.

Anderson never played a minute so we'll never know.

You're also forgetting Prohm recruited and got Donovon Jackson, a 41% shooter and Shayok, who shot 39% percent.

I mentioned this in another thread, but I think it's a trend across college basketball in general. Check out the top 50 teams in FG %

https://www.ncaa.com/stats/basketball-men/d1/current/team/148

You have Gonzaga, KU and Duke and then Oregon and Butler a little farther down. Otherwise, the list isn't littered with perennial contenders. Better defense obviously plays a factor, but we are seeing a lot more athletes than shooters. AAU pushes that style of play.

We'd all love to see better shooters, but I honestly think the talent pool is much smaller than 15-20 years ago. I'm sure that's why we have 100 page threads about someone like Bowen Born on here. It's divisive, but we are starving for a Willoughby, Christopherson, Long or Thomas.

Good point. I was just going through the high school recruits, so missed those guys.

Wigginton was a hit for sure.

Griffin got a bunch of offers because he was on fire from three at an AAU event.

Jackson, I fear, is a volume guy from three. Extremely streaky. I think we might've been a little misled by his tape, but that's just a gut feeling from watching him in CCL and this season. i actually have more faith in Grill becoming a sharpshooter.

Dubar looks like a bucket getter, and that's encouraging.

I'm just tired of watching us struggle in the half court. When was the last time we hit a pick and pop for three? That's all we did for 5 years under Hoiberg, and now we have nobody on the roster capable of that. And Prohm says he doesn't like that action! Unbelievable. Sorry, getting off track.

We need guys that can hit a shot over the defense when the shot clock is under 10. Those are the same guys that kill in transition and make it easier for the bigs. I hate to say it, but I'd love a CJ Fredrick.

1. Matt Thomas had all sorts of troubles his freshman year, and he turned out to be deadly from three. Jackson and Grill seem to be coming around lately.
2. Pretty sure Fredrick redshirted a year, so that is an unfair comparison.

Well Prohm doesn't like that action with his current roster at hand. Last year, Mike actually did that quite a bit and it's something that was very successful in the Big 12 tournament. Coach Hoiberg used it to perfection but also had guys like Ejim and Georges, who were matchup nightmares.

Prohm ran a lot of these actions when he had his year with Georges, and also the following year with Deonte. Our issue is we don't have a designated guy that can be a mismatch on a nightly basis. THT gave us a little bit of that last year. Next year, we're bringing in some guys that fit that sort of mold, especially in Foster, who should be that matchup nightmare. A 7'0" athletic big who can handle the ball decently and can shoot the 3 at a high percentage? Sign me up.

As far as needing guys to hit a shot over the defense, we literally had that last year in multiple ways with THT and Shayok. Both of those guys were able to do that, even if THT wasn't as efficient as Shayok. Lindell was also able to rise up basically over anyone he wanted and get a clean look off.

Overall we're just missing a lot of different pieces for how Prohm's offenses work. There are some pieces individually on this team that are okay, but next years class, the transfer from Troy, and a possible JUCO / grad transfer are the perfect pieces that could make next year fun again.

I wasn't comparing him to anyone specifically, but we don't have a single guy even close to his skill set on our roster.

I understand the Thomas anecdote, but he was a top 60 recruit. Jackson and Grill weren't even close to that.

You guys can stick to those KP rankings all you want. When it comes to halfcourt offense, we struggle to move the ball side to side, penetrate and kick, look opposite, and the most important...create and hit open threes. Our conference point totals:

79
53
81
55
52
89
53
68
61
73
61

We're the 45th most efficient offense in the country and going the wrong direction. The fact that Solomon Young is one of our most efficient offensive players should tell you something.

I guess what I'm looking at is his high school guard/forward recruiting. We're a bad shooting team this season and we aren't addressing it in the 2020 class as of now.

Well, I'd assume Prohm took Jackson and Grill thinking they'd be shooting better than they currently are. They were both pretty darn good shooters in high school. There are plenty of reasons why they're not good right now and a lot of that could be attributed to the line distance being even further than last year.

The guys we have coming in next year don't have to be great three point shooters. From what I've seen and read about them, they all can score the ball differently. None are pure shooters, but each show they're capable of knocking down the three at their respective levels. The transfer from Troy should help in that addition. He was an okay shooter as it was, and he's had a full year to get better in that area.

I think we'll be a better shooting team next year. Good lord it would be hard to be worse.
