According to the little bit I heard on Sound Off yesterday, Ross P and Travis J believe Iowa is now back in the driver's seat for the Big 10 West title and have a great shot at playing in the Big 10 Championship game after Illinois knocked off Wisconsin. Travis: "We were going to schedule our vacation to Europe around (the time the Big 10 title game), but now I am glad we didn't."

I guess I don't understand their optimism. Iowa's offense was supposed to run over a very bad Purdue defense. The Purdue offense put up more points against Iowa than Michigan and Penn State. Iowa still has to play Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota, and even Northwestern coming up will not be a gimme game for Iowa.

I guess anything can happen, but really?

I think they would need to win out AND have Minnesota drop another game, right?

I’d still go with Wisconsin as the sacrificial lamb offered up to OSU. Like most years it’s better to finish second in the West instead of getting embarrassed in the CCG.

I don't know if I would ever "rather finish 2nd" than 1st...even in that dumpsterfire half of a conference. I get what you're saying but I'd rather have the chance of an upset than to have no chance at all.

Amazing how Iowa fans points to the Illinois win as a testament to the strength/depth of the conference, and not the exact opposite. Meanwhile, don't see any Big 12 fans pointing to the close KU game and puffing our chests about conference depth...

None of this matters right now.. Both teams have easy schedules, however Baylor has beaten a ranked Iowa State and just went on the road @ Okie State (an above average team) and won by double digits. Minnesota has yet to play a team with a heartbeat, and again, that's why the voters have Baylor as #14 and Minnesota as #17.

All of this will come full circle sooner or later.
