We park east of the stadium and walk back and leave right away. If you don't set up your own tailgate, what's the appeal of parking in the lots if it's going to take an hour?
Distance. We used to park at a friend's house on 3rd st, close to the train crossing on Hazel. That was 15 years ago, and my back & knees aren't what they used to be. We got parking passes to G7, and the rough ground was just as bad for me as the former distance. So, for the last five years we've parked in C4/C5.

Yeah, I know...get off my lawn.

G7 was at least 2 hrs to clear the lot.
there is a real easy fix - no traffic going east from the stadium. two lines going east from g7 and haunted house - continual movement. i watched one car leaving g7 trying to turn left leaving at the 4th st for 11 minutes!

I was surprised by the number of people parked west of the cross country complex on state street. That’s a long walk. I’d rather get to the stadium at 5am than make that walk.

Ultimately a lot of things seem to be running like we still have 45000 people coming to games when 60000 is the new normal. Some of that can be changed with increased staffing, other things like number of restrooms, concession stands, and concourse space are more expensive fixes (not even sure how you deal with the concourse thing)

We could also use some things to deconflict pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the lots. In the s lots they really need to do the bridge/tunnel project at s16th. Cars from the S-lots sat there not moving an inch for awhile because of the lack of that. They also need to add some sort of wide walking path on the outside of the road ringing the stadium so people don't have to walk in the roadway. For the north lots hopefully whenever they decide to make that not look like the surface of Mars they'll also redesign it to better separate pedestrian and vehicle traffic as well.

My assumption is that with the completion of the concourse wrapping around the North end zone, this will be alleviated.

We’ll essentially have 25% more walking space and space for potential food vendors.

I was not there, but did the PA system play Old Town Road? Was it the Little Nas X vocal or the Billy Ray Cyrus vocal part?

JP needs to hire a company that analyzes traffic flow before and after games. Then get the best plan. Only 1 lane exiting G6,G7 and Haunted Forrest lots today. Been 2 lanes in past years. Hate to say it but were getting as bad as getting out of Iowa City. And it's really bad!

Or contact a University that has an engineering school or CRP-type programs that teach transportation and planning logistics. I think Washington State or Kansas State have an engineering college and researchers with real-world experience in solving those problems, maybe they could assist with some sort of research exchange program?

We noticed that line of cars parked out there on our way out of the stadium. That would be a hike to the game, and you can forget about bringing anything to tailgate with, that far away.

Has ISU ever given any thought to providing buses to pick up and drop off from the mall or other locations around town? When we went to TCU and Baylor that is what we did, parked a mile or two from the stadium in stadium football parking lots and then they bused us to the stadium and back to the lot after the game, it was provided with the price of the parking.

As one of the people who was parked out this direction, do you have any other recommendations than paid parking in general public lots?

Also would like feedback from others about lot 61 by the sports complex. I have parked there in past, but it appears the signage has changed, and at the risk of being towed or ticketed, why i had decided to park elsewhere.

Took at least a .5 hour to go 100 yards and enter from nw corner of stadium. Felt like the Memphis bowl game. Probably should consider alternatives. I get it, there’s construction. There’s also record season ticket sales.

You can’t argue with anyone who says they want to go out at half. To think the concourses have been widened recently, imagine if that hadn’t happened.

Lastly the Hilton parking lot... still compares to an Afghanistan battlefield.
Have you been to afgan

It's so annoying the old Kmart lot doesn't let people park there. I'd charge $10 and have a free trolley to the stadium if I owned it.

I agree 100%, but sounds to logical to some I guess.

On parking, saw one stupid thing, that at least is simple to fix..but was causing major traffic back up.So, for the S lots coming in from the south:

-Mistake 1: They had no one at the entrance looking to make sure all entering had a pass (so there were some turning around further in).

-Mistake 2: While it only took a few minutes to come up from 30 on University, as soon as we entered the access road around the S lots we came to stop and it took at least 10 minutes to from S5 to S6! This also caused the traffic behind to back up and flow out onto University so know one could enter the lots.

Why was this happening was be because instead of being at the entrance to each S lot to pull the bottom off the parking pass, the ones staffing S6 were out in the middle of the access road checking every car before it could move on and creating a major traffic jam. Just let them pull into the lots, so others can swing around and problem solved. When we finally got up to those doing this, I mentioned they were causing major jams, just step back to the actual lot entrance..they looked back clueless and said its ok, we are almost full. Not the point, you will block it as long as you are out here.

By the way, this was 8:30, not early, but not delay time yet.
We got to the S lots at 8:15. Like you said no one at the entrance. With my 88 year old mother with we headed to S1 handicap. Traffic was backed up, talked to S2 staff as were stopped. They told us S1 was full and handicap was to go to G5. I said we can't push a wheelchair in the grass, they said don't blame us that's what we were told. Went on to S1 to try and turn around. Staff there said S5, got to S5 and was told to go to S6. I don't know what to do for Iowa game.

Reserved lots (red) and gen staff lots (yellow) are free parking outside of the hours of 7.30a to 5.30p Monday through Friday. Student lots, meters and the two ramps are 24/7. Also, a few spaces in the reserved lots have signage for 24/7 reserved (for deans, veeps, etc). There are plenty of lots on the east end of campus that are a shorter or similar walk to the cross country lots. Bonus - you can exit on the north side of campus eastbound on 13th. You'll make it to I35 before a lot of the folks trying to get there on Hwy 30.

We park and tailgate against the JTS fence in S1, we got to the stadium around 10 till 7. There was still plenty of parking in the S1 lot until 9:00 or so. The best way to enter the stadium for the handicapped lot is from the West. As you drive off the street, there will be a person sitting there, guarding the entrance, just tell him "handicapped" and they will shoot you down the hill to the lot..

When we got to the lot yesterday, they took our money and did not have stickers yet, they walked around putting them on cars, from that point on.

Couple of things, S2 the skybox lot never fills up and was half full yesterday, if you have a handicapped sticker, they can not park you on the grass. They will park you in one of the S lots, but you may get bumped from S1 down to the east.

The Iowa game in two weeks will be a zoo, it always is, we plan to get there around six if possible.

Thanks for the advice. To come in from the West, do you have to come from the North or will they let you get there from University?
My mom was wore out. I don't think she can handle getting there earlier.
We take her to the step show and head to the stadium right after. Normally we go to the South entrance for the elevator.
I decided since it would be so much farther walking clear around to go in the NW corner. We beat the lineup. But it wasn't the best idea. I'm fat ,old and out of shape. Pushing up the ramp just about killed me.

Get off University at Mortenson Street turn left, it will be the first street after you leave highway 30 going north on University, they have a left hand turning lane and then its a quick right on to the street West of the Stadium, not sure the name of the street. Once on it, it will be the first drive way as you head North, that turns back east. Trying to come down from the North on the west side is a pain, better to come from the south off of 30 and then university.
They will stop you at that entrance, but just tell them you want the handicapped lot, and they will shoot you down the hill and in.

Wheel chairs are a pain even when you have a ramp, I have been tackling them for going on 40 years.
