Coach Messingham, I've seen both pluses and minuses ...

Victim of the Peter Principle at ISU. To some extent he was hindered by general organizational incompetence but he didn't do much to overcome it either. Maybe he's better at the job now than he was then, but I guess we'll find out.

We probably don't remember him fondly because the defense was generally letting ISU down the years he was OC, but it also seemed like the scheme and play-calling was fine one week and then terrible the next. This also probably had to do with inconsistent QB play in that era...

He was never really liked here. We all tried to believe it was a great move by Paul. He probably had some good ideas but his offense was bland and didn’t score points. Most of us all now would say he’s a joke and find it hilarious you guys hired him and don’t see how that’s gonna go well.

What's your take on him as an offensive coordinator?

Those offenses were rough, but he followed Tom Herman, and we had lost some really good OL IIRC, so that's a tough situation to follow. Probably got a bit of a raw deal from us fans at the time. Seemed to be good at coaching TEs and special teams.

IIRC a lot of posters (myself included) were pretty pleased with the promotion at the time because staff continuity sounded like a good thing. In this case, it wasn't. It was one of several missteps that eventually ended CPR's tenure.

Actually, this is a brilliant move by Miles. Miles offense sucks but Messingham will make Miles look like an offensive genius.
