Is it better to stay in Ames or Des Moines? Can you suggest some things to do/see, places to eat, etc.

Looking forward to the game. I know you guys will be favored, but we’ll be ready to battle after playing Florida Stste the week before.

Make sure you eat at Hickory Park. Best BBQ in the state, can’t beat the amount of food you get for the price.

Go to Welch Ave Station in campus town for a beer, pizza, and wings. If you want to tailgate you can get into the grass lots south of the stadium for $20/car. Give yourself a couple hours if you're going to do that. Walk around and enjoy!

Issues with paying taxes/bills and lost the liquor license(s), just gave up & shut down.

Don't do tax evasion folks! Really a shame. DG's and the Corner Pocket were great places on Main Street.

Go to Hickory Park, but don't go with any expectations. People expect different things when they hear BBQ, but I think everyone can enjoy HP if they come with no pre-concieved notions.

yeah HP is good but no where near great BBQ, its more of a cool atmosphere though. If you want good BBQ you go to Smoky D's on 2nd ave or Kue'd bbq out in Waukee.

Do at least one day in Ames. Saturday night for sure.

Just walk around the grass lots with a 12 pack. You will get fed so much food and booze for rocking your road gear.

Hit Alluvial and Torrent Breweries, and make sure to soak in the vibe at Tip Top lounge about 6 hours before kick off.
