My ex-mother-in-law (yeah, I know, pretty thin reference) got asked out by Handsome Harley Race as a young girl. She told me that 1) she knew him and was afraid of him and 2) he was pretty damn ugly.

So no date, just a close brush with infamy.

@BoxsterCy, you might be interested to know that the vixen now works for Nels Pederson Co. out of Badger, IA. I'm betting they were in business when you lived there.....I think the third generation of Pederson boys are running it now.

In today's clash of parenting styles, Z and I visited the Bookmobile again.
Z was looking at a graphic novel, had it in her hands, and a mom came in with her two boys.

They gravitated to that section, and the mom fired off "We're not reading graphic novels. Our books are over here."
As they walked over, Z did what Z will do and figured she was wrong. She put that one back too quickly, but we kept looking while I egged her on to get whatever she wanted.

I'm sure the mom there was thinking something like "serious books only, to encourage serious reading later." Z recovered with a stack of DC Super Hero Girls graphic novels and some videos.

I was hoping that the mom would say something about how graphic novels prevent people from becoming serious readers, just so I could say, "That's how I started. Sure, I only have a heavy reading PhD, but I think reading what you want will get someone reading."

But it didn't work out. Z and the boys played, talked, and laughed, and I didn't get to make a jerk of myself.

People are stupid. If there is a truck or machinery blocking the road, these idiots will drive right up to it and then realize they can't through. Just watched a lady use my unfinished driveway to turn around. There is still a considerable gap between the road and curb/driveway apron, so it's not usable. I swear some people can't see more than 5 feet in front of them.

I just remembered when I last renewed my license I had to bring in some other forms of documentation. But I thought all of that was to confirm my home address. Nebraska no longer gives you the new license. They give you a paper one and send you the real license to your address to try to prevent fraud.
Yes, that's how it works in Iowa, too. They gave me a copy and told me to keep and carry it with my expired one. I was kinda leery when I went up to the security guy at DSM that day. But I probably confused him unnecessarily by trying to explain what I was giving him. I should have just kept quiet and only answered his questions. No big deal and I passed with flying colors :)

Years ago Iowa used to give you the license on the spot because it was just a form with your picture attached that they laminated. Of course they also used to use your social security number as your license number...
Even for an ordinary state ID card in Iowa, they mail it to you. I suppose someone might try to pass themselves off as an "overpaid government employee trying to screw small business owners (hotels) by demanding a state rate."

Am I the only one who found it funny that a post about the hummingbird (the helicopter of the bird world) feeder not lasting and a pic of a full size primitive helicopter were posted back to back?

Yes, I probably am the only twisted individual who went there...
You're observant.

Pretty sure the reason I didn't pursue a higher degree is those damn Sgt. Rock comics and the Doc Savage serials that were reprinted in the 1960's. Yup, pretty sure.

Well, maybe also something to do with me only being about to overcome my inner sloth in inconsistent productive streaks that aren't sustainable for any length of time.

Yep, Emma is back,

So, we have Hulu as our TV provider, and we have the screensaver set to pictures of dogs. We were in the bedroom talking with the gf's mom when we hear Emma going nuts. Gf goes out and busts out laughing, Emma was barking at the dogs as they came up. Specifically the St Bernard. She may be full of love, but she isnt the brightest dog out there.

Finished a mini-binge last night, Umbrella Academy on NetFlix. Was entertained, will watch Season 2 when it comes out. Acting is pretty good, Ellen Page is good as are the actors playing the time traveling kid and the assassin Hazel. The deadpanning read of Hazel seemed a little John Goodman like. Quirky with some WTF-ish moments but me likey. Two thumbs up.

That's actually very interesting to me as one of Nels' grandkids was a friend of mine in high school.

Most decidedly not. He expected much more out of her than she was willing to give on a first date - or second, or third, or fourth,...

I've probably said too much already...
Some guys just want women to share their feelings and dreams, and some women don't like to do that early in a relationship.
