Not exactly sure.
I think the one major thing that hindered Iowa in that game was not being able to see Iowa State's film, which is big, but I can't really think of any other. It hurt Iowa State in many different facets. Having to get all ready for the first game of the year and play hard for 5 minutes, wait around for hours, then completely shut it down hurts. Not getting reps from guys that would be seeing their first college minutes hurts, especially on the o-line. It for sure hurt both sides, but likely it hurt Iowa State a bit more.

Moving good jones to LT and having a brand new center forced us to jockey the line around for the Iowa game since we had a new center with 0 experience. Not sure how the dimwit can think that having to move your linemen around due to lack of playing time doesn’t hurt you.

Because you're using the hypothetical that IF ISU played the entire game, it would have changed the outcome of the Iowa game. ISU didn't play the entire game. Stop using hypotheticals. Suck it up and take your double-digit loss like a man.

Remember when a metal beam fell off of a roof in Indiana and ruined Iowa's basketball season? #hypotheticals

Yeah. Nobody outside of a hundred (tee'd up for you guys) Iowa basketball fans gave a poo about it... Get over it. Everyone year it's something new - We would have won with backup QB. We would have won if we played at the end of the year... No one cares.

I think we also forget that that game was the first true game CMC was going to be the offensive coordinator. He had one series against SDSU and that's it. He wasn't able to see from the first game what did and did not work for the offense he was running. You also couple that with the fact that we lost our "day 1 starter" for the second half and had to throw into the game a below average QB who transferred a few weeks later. No we do not know if all of this would have won us the game, but it would've changed the game, likely for the better.

You guys don't use those excuses year after year?
The excuse of "Iowa State gets better as the year goes on and that's a reason why we might not have won" is still better than "Oh it's Iowa State's superbowl and we don't care about this game at all" narrative that Iowa fans use when Iowa State wins

The “super bowl” excuse is bi-partisan nowadays.

I personally think it's hilarious when fans say it's the opposition's superbowl. No it's probably not the make or break game of the year but in-state rival games are very important to both sides.
