Am I crazy or is Dany razing King’s Landing analogous to us nuking Japan.
I don’t see a parallel.
King’s landing had been defeated and would’ve continued with their surrender. The Japanese were still fighting tooth and nail in the island hopping campaign and would’ve prolonged the war as long they could. The a-bombs showed the Japanese that their total destruction was assured if they didn’t surrender.
In a "hindsight is 20/20" sort of way that is historically debatable. If there is one thing the Japanese feared more than losing WWII to the US, it was losing WWII to the Soviet Union. They eventually figured that by surrendering to the US they largely would have been able to keep their culture and way of life - and they for the most part were correct. If they were forced to surrender to the USSR, that never would have happened (see China). Yet another AlternateHistoryHub video goes into this a little bit:
But yes, at the time we fire-bombed Tokyo as a control study and then dropped two different kinds of nukes on Hiroshima and Nagasaki as part "end the war"/part science experiment, the Japanese were fighting tooth and nail in the manner you suggested.
