Indiana Turnaround....gives me hope for ISU

Another team that started the year very strong was Indiana. Through January 3, they were 12-2 and ranked #21 with impressive wins over Marquette & Louisville, with a 1 point loss at Arkansas and a loss @ #3 Duke. Early January saw two fairly narrow road losses to #2 Michigan and Maryland before the wheels fell off. They subsequently got blasted by the likes of Nebraska (home), Rutgers and Northwestern, on top of 20+ point losses to Michigan, Minnesota, etc. In fact, they lost 12 of 13 and looked atrocious doing it - no effort on D, hero ball on O, and a general lack of caring. Sound familiar? There was a lot of talk on Twitter / Message boards that Archie Miller was way over his head and he lost his team. Again, sound familiar?

After benching some players and asserting some control of the team, IU has won 3 in a row after, with wins against #19 Wisconsin, #6 Michigan State and a beatdown against Illinois in Champagne last night. IU suddenly is back in the tourney discussion and seemingly has regained their November/December form.

Can ISU follow a similar resurgence? Certainly - if Prohm and the players get on the same page. The recent IU turnaround at least gives me some hope that this can happen.

It all sounds familiar. I'm just not sure if Prohm has or can do enough to "take control of the team." Also their issues were in January and Miller had 6 weeks to fix them, not 6 days.

I'm not hoping for the team to fail but I'm sure as hell not holding my breath for any kind of turnaround.

To be fair, the importance of the next two games pales in comparison to the tournament, so in effect, we have two weeks to get it together.

Indiana's problems started in January, but didn't turn until late February. But, yes, you are correct that there was more time to fix the issues. Still.....gives me some hope that it can be done

True, but at this point I'm not even sure what I'd need to see Saturday and next week that would give me any hope for any kind of run.

That said, if I'm being honest the combination if crappy bball and crappy weather has got me more ornery than usual so that's a big part of my outlook right now.

A win?

That would show that we’re still able to function at a high level despite having some underlying issues.

If we’re competitive in these next two games, we’re probably back to it being a crapshoot in the NCAA tournament

A win? Probably not. Given our recent trend even a quality win like Tech is going to seem more like the exception than an expectation.

We've got it in us, somewhere, and I'll be happy as hell if we find it again. I'll be pulling hard for this group but I'm done trusting them.

If a win over a top-10 team doesn’t give you “any kind of hope”, than you likely never should have had any, before the slide.

I hate to break it to you, but several wins against top (10) teams by nature will always be the exception, for nearly everyone. That’s why it’s so tough for even the most stable, peaking-in-March teams to string together the wins needed to “go on a run” in the NCAA tournament.

I'd hoped we had things figured out after KU. Then @ Tech. Then @ KState, and even a little after OU, only to be served a big ol' cup of nope. Thanks for the update on the fickle nature of college hoops in March. Mind bending stuff there.

I'll see if we show a pulse against Tech then adjust my hope accordingly. At this point I'm more apt to expect nothing and hope to be pleasantly surprised.

Sounds like every season has served you a cup of nope.

Gonna need to just focus on improving on a couple of aspects here and there over the next two games and see where it takes things.
