Once the ground thaws I am having a 6 foot tall black vinyl chain link fence installed. I have contacted 3 companies so far, one has already given me a quote. The quote I have is 4200 dollars installed and includes taxes and fees. They noted that every single post is set in concrete. One of the companies uses post anchors by default, and concrete if requested. The third, Central Iowa Fencing, pounds in the posts 3 feet into the ground, and I believe use concrete for terminal posts. Is it normal to not use concrete for chain link posts? They have really great reviews, and I'm assuming this quote will come in cheaper. They offer a 5 year no heave warranty on the work, which concerns me a little...I believe my soil has a lot of clay, because in my front yeard, you can see a ton of cracks in the soil when it's really dry. I'm assuming I will be in this house for at least the next 10 years. What are your experiences?

As far as I'm aware its fairly normal not to use concrete actually. I have a former tenant of my rental property that actually helped put in the same type of fence, with no concrete and he worked at CIF.

Put in a chain link fence four years ago. Concrete on the terminal (corner) posts only and they pounded in all the others. Absolutely no problems. BTW - six foot is a tall fence. You might need more concrete.

How tall of a fence do you have? It's good to know that with the same method you have no issues after 4 years!

From my experience calling around a year or so ago, every company in DSM I called including American, Des Moines, Young, etc. came in within a hundred dollars of each other. This was for 4’ black fence. We ended up in a different house that was already fenced so no experience with the install.

6 foot fence, u trying to keep kangaroos in the backyard?
My Goldendoodle, close enough. He's built like an olympic high jumper. I'm torn between 5 and 6 feet. I'm putting in privacy slats later, so I assumed having the 6 foot height would be the best when that time comes.

Make sure you are not breaking any city or HOA rules with a 6 foot fence.

Most the houses around me have the post pounded in and they look good.

Untill a huge wind gust or sustained wind come along pushing on all those privacy slats and bending the the crap out of that weak ass post driven in ground **** destroying the fence. I recommend going in concrete if privacy slats will ever happen and also going to minimum 48" depth.
