"AMES — Stadium steps at 5 a.m., bear crawls after practice — whatever Iowa State coaches' punishment is, players have gotten the message this week that they cannot continue to pile up the penalties."

I wonder what a "Bear Crawl" looks like?

Its a walk/run that is done on your hands and feet...similar to hands and knees, but with your feet instead of knees.

We used to do 100 yard "BBRs". That was bearcrawl for 100, then go backwards for the 100, then run 100. Ouch.

we did that every once and awhile but not to offten

The worst I can remember was a timed run from the baseball field to Trice (1 mile), then 20 stadiums stair sprints, 10 buddy carries on the stadium stairs, then to run back to the baseball field and "beat our time" (ya right!). Because nobody beat thier time we had additional laps for every 10 seconds you were over...

I was happy to see the comment from Kurtis Taylor. You knew that the staff was going to take some action, but it always works best when players step forward and make it clear the enough is enough.

I did play football, but back in the 70's and we called them CrabCrawls. But for punishment (and I had quite a few) we had to run a tiered hill; also if you weren't a senior, you had to polish the senior's shoes.

No, silly. Crabcrawls are when your arms are behind you (butt facing the ground).
