Brace up an ACL and they will turn someone loose for part of a game. Some guys have played with torn ACLs their whole career.
I think the QB for Purdue played a portion of last season with torn ACL, and several years ago Philip Rivers famously played in the AFC championship game with a torn ACL. I'm certainly no doctor, but my guess is that it depends on what type of tear it is and what the athlete has to do to perform - a complete tear is something that brace or no, a guy is not going to be able to play. But with a partial tear a QB might be able to pull it off with a knee brace, but their ability to move laterally will be mostly shot.
Last year my son tore his ACL in the first qtr and didn’t come out until before half. Had 6 carries on it also. He borrowed a brace and ran a couple miles on it twice. ISU dr told him if he was a senior he would have braced him and turned him loose. Being a junior, he recommended surgery.
Complete. One of the ISU drs told us that, I think the kick holder, had a complete tear and was playing.
Didnt the QB for Solon about 7 or 8 years ago play a good chunk of the season with 3 torn ACLs?
