Did I hear that right on Murph & Andy? Luka Garza just had an operation?

Iowa sophomore men’s basketball player Luka Garza had surgery Friday to remove a benign cyst in his abdomen.

“We are happy to hear that Luka’s procedure went well,” Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery said Friday in a news release. “Luka has had a phenomenal summer preparing for his sophomore season and we look forward to him rejoining his teammates on the court later this fall.”

He struggles to run and can't play defense. He was also said to be better than any post player on our team. That was fun.

He was definitely better offensively than any post player for Iowa State, and statistically, he was a better rebounder than any of Iowa State’s post players. For some reason, posters on CyFan seem to think he sucked because he’s a slow-footed, goofy looking dude.

Well, that's generally a good formula for a gooner, average-at-best post player.

Cam Lard called and told me to tell you that you're stupid.

What's that based on? You don't watch Iowa State so am curious how you came to that conclusion.

Lard last season...

OBPM = 2.0
DBPM = 4.1
TBPM = 6.1

Garza last season...

OBPM = 5.9
DBPM = 0.4
TBPM = 6.3

The numbers say they were close, if not Garza a little ahead.

Garza could be really good if he could learn to be an adequate defender. Our Hawk friends do have a good point -- the guy was great on offense.

I think we have all seen Lard's potential and him at his best, though. If the guy who does this kind of stuff shows up every night next season...

Then Lard is going to be way better than Garza.

Lard consistently does that in the Big 12, and he is fighting for CPOTY.

If you think Cam Lard is a better offensive player than Garza you’re an idiot. Lard is definitely a better overall player, but Garza is much better offensively (and a marginally better rebounder).

If you think your belief in player advanced statistics is based on objectiveness versus their relation to Iowa athletics you are an idiot.
