I'm just floating a theory here, but, if I recall correctly, Gookin is also a well known Hawk spy. Would not be surprised if his plan is to use the money to make a donation to Iowa basketball and bamboozle Iowa State fans into indirectly supporting the Hawks.

Why is that absurd? The team gets to split 1.8 million and 200k goes to the fans. That’s the way the tournament works and how it gains exposure, through fan support. The top 201 fans are paid out at least 1k.
What's absurd is trying to tell people what they should be doing with their money.
