Just passing along ... Iowa State is expecting an NCAA decision on Kyle Kempt's shot for a sixth-year "any day now," according to a source. No certainties but I think his chances are significantly higher than when I initially reported that he would apply. Stay tuned.

My most excellent source says we are fairly optimistic and should know next week. Fingers crossed.

This. I think it is strange people are finding negative in this. This coaching staff isn't going to hand him the job if Zeb or someone else shows they are better. It is great knowing we have an option that has shown they can win big games at this level and if someone beats him out great.

I hope after the QB competition this team is ready for taking the next step. It's fun to root for players, but in the end I'm rooting for Iowa State.

If Kyle gets the extra year, it will be interesting to see who ends up #1. They each have pros and cons. Zeb's got the arm and can be more of a running threat. Kyle has more experience, is better reading the defense, and with the touch passes. Either way we'll have a VERY solid 1 & 2. These guys are roommates, good friends, will push and make each other better, and foremost they root for each other to succeed. If Kyle doesn't get the extra year, I am guessing he would be a natural fit to step into the roll Jake Waters left.
