Seen the Avett Bros 3 times. They put on a great show! I love their music.

I was wondering how they are live! We'll try and make it, then. I had tried to look up reviews of their concerts online, but that's sort of a zero sum game - everyone is super-biased about the concerts they see, you know?

I had also looked up Electric Six, because I love them and they'll be here for, like, $12 next month - I couldn't imagine their show being anything but fun. Half of the reviews I read were that they put on a crazy-awesome, high-energy show that everyone needs to see before they die... the other half was that they were too bizarre and you couldn't get into the music.

I think I am most pumped for Gary Clark Jr of all of the acts at Hinterland, pretty easily. I can't wait to see him live.

Dawes was really good here a couple of months ago. They put on a good show - much higher energy than you would expect from a band that has so many mellow shows.
I haven't seen him live but Gary Clark Jr's music strikes me as a style that will be just killer for a live performance.

Good to hear. I have been listening to them a lot lately so I am glad I get to see them. I like Kings of Leon too but Dawes was definitely the bigger draw for me personally.

Every time I have seen the Avetts it has been awesome (helps they were all outdoor concerts too). They are high energy and passionate.

Hey for 12 bucks that seems worth the risk!

I think the same on Gary Clark Jr - I've listened to his live album some and gone down YouTube holes of his live performances, and it seems like he just lets it all go. I wish Charles Bradley were going to be at Hinterland instead of 80/35.

I've liked Kings of Leon for so long... but that album in, what, 2011 or whenever (the "Sex on Fire" album) just got so overplayed. I still enjoy their style so much, but it's almost a visceral reaction to turn the station anymore when I hear them. I hate when the radio does that to a band I like.

Wow, we disagree on something, loved their music before this album, thought it was 100% mainstream driven album, that completely lost me and I have been lost on them since.....

Turnpike Troubadours at nitefall on the river is the highlight of my summer concert schedule. The guilty pleasure will be reliving my high school days with some Coolio, Vanilla Ice, and a few other 90's bands at the fair this year.

I totally misspoke - I actually agree with you! That album was very commercial, and so it got overplayed. And now I just can't listen to them. I've only heard the one song off of their new album, and it's okay, but it's just not remarkable.

Saw Jimmy Eat World last night. I really only know their first two albums so I was lost for a lot of the show but they played for about and hour and a half and put on a pretty good show. Never been to a sold out show at Woolys before. They can cram a lot of people in there.

Black Marble and Mitski are a couple of bands playing Vaudeville coming up. Neither are super well known but both should be really good. I wanna see Nicolas Jaar in Omaha later this summer too.

Also I'm way jealous of everyone in here that lives in Colorado. I've been to Red Rocks during the day but never seen a show there.

5/21 - Bone Thugs N' Harmony (Wooly's, Des Moines)
5/23 - Red Hot Chili Peppers (Wells Fargo, DSM)
6/5 - Tom Petty (Wells Fargo, DSM)
6/9 - Turnpike Trubadours (Nitefall on the River)
6/11 - Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds (Huntington Bank Pav, Northerly Island)
7/3 - Dispatch, Guster opening (McGrath Amphitheater, Cedar Rapids)
8/4&5 - Hinterland (Saint Charles)
8/20 - Michael Franti (Nitefall)
9/15 - Dirty Rotten Scoundrels & Pork Tornados (Nitefall)

This is the first summer I haven't gone to a major festival in 8 or 9 years (nor any Red Rocks or Gorge trips). I must be getting old...

Also, so pissed I will be missing Sir Paul on 7/21. I am marrying friends in Iowa City that night. I have seen him a couple times and highly recommend his shows!

Sir Paul McCartney. It might be impossible to name a living person who has had a more profound impact on music in general........think of all the Beatles music covers you hear, up to and including in elevators. (Yeah, that's lame, but it's still out there.) The creativity that he and Lennon brought to popular music was unprecedented.

On a related note, still hoping for one of my jazz faves (Sypro Gyra? Gregg Karukas?) to be in the area this summer. Last heard Spyro Gyra at Simon Estes in 2004, and they were awesome.

Sir Paul puts on an amazing show. I am a die hard Beatles fan (I am 31 but listened to them growing up bc of my dad) so obviously loved his shows. But I have brought friends who aren't big Beatles fans who loved them too!

Yes, the Mishawaka is fantastic, just had lunch there on Sunday on the way back from the mountains. A recent list named it the #2 venue in CO after Red Rocks, and I would totally agree. Small outdoor amphitheatre next to whitewater mountain river with old-school bar and restaurant. http://www.themishawaka.com/

This is one of those summers where wife and I damn near go broke buying concert tickets, but too many good ones to say no to:

Ryan Adams @ Red Rocks
Ron Gallo @ Larimer Lounge
Avett Bros & Shovels and Rope @ Red Rocks
BECK @ Red Rocks ***most anticipated***
The Record Company @ Steamboat Springs (free)
Amos Lee @ Red Rocks
Spoon @ Mishawaka
Wilco & New Pornographers @ Denver bike fest
Gov't Mule & Yonder Mountain String Band @ Red Rocks
JJ Grey & North Mississippi All Stars @ Red Rocks
Sturgill Simpson @ Red Rocks
Explosions in the Sky @ Mishawaka
RHCP @ Pepsi Center

Mishawaka Amphitheatre is great. To me had a very similar feel to the Floydfest festival in Floyd, VA.

And Beck is awesome; they are great live.

Did you see Beach Slang? I was more pumped for them being on the bill, I nearly went because of them....

Primus was great, although I wish they would have had the show somewhere else. Hoyt Sherman is a cool venue with lots of character, but it's not a great place for a rock show. The fixed seating kind of subdued the crowd and killed the vibe a little. Overall it was still a great show though.

Stone Sour last night was fantastic. The sold out crowd at Wooly's was fun, but exhausting. I haven't had to fight so hard just to maintain my position in quite a while. Place was a sweat-box, too.

I think I might be getting too old for this...

Yea I was excited for them too but I got there late unfortunately and only caught the last song. I saw them last summer at Primavera though, they're really good.
