Not a huge deal. He's for sure gunna be moving on at some point, might as well be now. It's not like he's looking at other assistant jobs, and highly unlikely he takes recruits to SDSU.
Most of the recruits Iowa St is on for '17 are in the South, and Prohm is actively recruiting them, along with assistants. I think there was a Milwaukee recruit we are in on, can't remember his name, but that might be the only one that is directly effected by this possible move.

Sooner or later Prohm's other assistants were gunna have to pull their weight, and if TJ does move on, at least we'll have the excitement of Prohm searching for a new assistant. ;)

SDSU is actually a pretty good job for your first HC gig. Nagy built a really nice program there so it wouldn't be a total rebuild. Also, SDSU plays at UNI next year in the non-con so he'd kind of have a 'homecoming' game.

Yep. I'd prefer it if he stayed, but everyone should have known that as soon as he came back he wasn't going to be at Iowa State long-term as an assistant.

It SEEMS as though he and Prohm worked well together over the last year, but it wouldn't be hard to imagine that there would be some struggles there was well. Prohm not only had to get players to buy in, he likely had to get TJ to buy in.

I personally think Otz can do better.....doesn't he currently make more than the old coaches salary?

Can you imagine recruiting milwaukee and chicago to....SD?
Do you think Otz can get a P5 HC gig? Just curious because to me SDSU is pretty good as far as mid majors go.

Iowa and South Dakota may be the same. But Iowa state and South Dakota are very different basketball programs.

Well yeah, and I would assume they would have very different recruiting and talent expectations as well.

The only concern in TJ leaving is guys like Wright and Lewis that are priority recruits that he's built relationships with. I know Prohm has met with both of those guys, so I'm assuming he would take the point.

From my understanding, TJ is the only one who really recruits on our staff. So this would be a significant blow. Assistant's would have to step up.

Took the Wright State job.

That seems like a step down taking the Wright State job over South Dakota State. Wright State has only made the tourney twice with the last time being in 2007. South Dakota State has made the tourney three times and has been Division 1 for a much shorter period of time.

Part of 2017 recruiting is being done in the South, but TJ is very active with more than just one recruit. There have been 3 or so Wis. guys mentioned here (including Lewis) and I believe McKinley Wright and another (not sure if we're even in on Gonar Mar anymore) is out of Minnesota. But, yes, losing him to a head job seemed inevitable.

I know you have some ties to the program, but what has Small been doing the last couple of months? He's been tied to several guys we're recruiting for 2017.

oh lord. This is one reason why I won't be heartbroken if he leaves. The digs that his supporters get in all the time on here.

TJ is a great recruiter. Iowa state would miss him. He's not the only person who recruits on the staff.

The plot thickins...

Great sources telling HoopDirt.com that Vince Taylor is also in the mix at SDSU. More soon at HoopDirt.com

I'd be pleased if TJ gets the SDSU job. He deserves a shot.
(Selfishly I'd like him to help Prohm with local recruiting connections one more year.)
